In just six months this biological beast has killed almost 190,000 Americans, infected more than six million and has ended the dreams of thousands of entrepreneurs who have had to close their businesses or lost a good part of their savings trying to stay afloat. At the same time, COVID-19 has put the entrepreneurial and creative fiber of the Lati- no business community to the test, as never before. In this edition we bring you the stories of Juan Jesus Marín, who is moving ahead with his restaurant El Pollo Bravo, José Rivera who asks his community for help to save his Rivera Repair Shop, and the young businessman José Gutiérrez who thought out of the box to help customers celebrate quinceañeras outdoors. Although we now live with res- trictions worthy of a science fiction movie, businesses seek to survive the new normal, adjusting their prices, modifying their services, going fully online and juggling to retain and captivate their customers. As if COVID-19 alone were not enough, many are in the crossfire of fighting a lethal pandemic and paying rent to keep their business lights on, often having to foot the same amount as befo- re this health crisis. As a voice for Hispanic entrepreneurs, Negocios Now understands on the one hand, property owners who have responsibilities to their lenders, but on the other, we sadly see many businesses struggling to handle the pandemic and also cover rent responsibilities. In the words of businessman Salvador Pedroza: This is a delicate moment for the entrepreneur who's small business is their livelihood, and if lost, could mean devastation for an entire family. We cannot know the particular financial situation of each landlord, but if it is possible to lower the rent, at least in these uncertain times, do so today. You could be a hero for our community just as those who fight to save a family business. H emos vivido medio año ya amena- zados de muerte por una pande- mia que no anda con juegos cuan- do se trata de acabar con vidas humanas y destruir negocios. En solo seis meses esta bestia biológica ha dado muerte a casi 190,000 estadouni- denses, ha contagiado a más de 6 millones y ha acabado con el sueño de miles de emprendedores que han tenido que cerrar sus negocios o perdido buena parte de sus ahorros intentando sobrevivir. Pero al mismo tiempo el COVID-19 ha puesto a prueba, como nunca, la fibra emprendedora y creativa de la comunidad empresarial latina. En esta edición le traemos las historias de Jesús Marín, que sale adelante con su restaurante El Pollo Bravo; de José Rivera, quien pide ayuda a su comunidad para salvar a su Rivera Repair Shop; y el joven empresario José Gutiérrez, quien salió de sus cuatro paredes para llevar al aire su negocio de celebración de quinceañeras. Aunque vivimos en un escenario de res- tricciones digno de una película de cien- cia ficción, los negocios buscan sobrevivir a la nueva normalidad, ajustando sus precios, modifican- do sus servicios, entrando de lleno a la Internet y haciendo malabares para cautivar a sus clientes. Como si el COVID-19 fuera poco, muchos se encuentran en un fuego cruzado al tener que luchar contra una letal pandemia y pagar altas rentas de sus locales de negocio que en numerosos casos se ha mantenido al mismo monto de antes de esta crisis sanitaria. Como voz de los empresarios hispanos, Negocios Now entiende por una parte a los dueños de inmuebles que tienen res- ponsabilidades con sus prestamistas, pero por otra vemos con tristeza a muchos negocios batallando en un fuego cruzado entre la pandemia y las rentas. Retomando las palabras del empresario Salvador Pedroza, es un momento de sen- sibilidad con ese emprendedor que tiene su pequeño negocio como único sustento y que, de perderlo, podría ser devastador para toda una familia. No podemos saber la situación financie- ra particular de cada arrendador, pero si es posible bajar la renta, al menos en estos tiempos de incertidumbre, háganlo hoy mismo. Para nuestra comunidad serán tan héroes como los que luchan por salvar un negocio familiar. Fuego cruzado
