The Press-Dispatch Wednesday, September 9, 2020 B-9 MINUTES Continued from page 7 Presbyterian Wesleyan comes more popular, it seems to have lost some of its cutting edge. When the Church be- comes more tolerant of an evil culture the presence of God seems less. Paul writes, "I urge you, therefore, to pres- ent your bodies a living and ho- ly sacrifice, acceptable to God which is your spiritual service of worship and do not be con- formed to this present world, but be transformed by the re- newing of your mind, that you may prove what the will of God is that which is good and ac- ceptable and perfect." (Ro- mans 12:1-2 NASB) The great issues of our day are more than moral and polit- ical. They are theological and spiritual. We idealize self-es- teem, power, money, and lei- sure. All these will soon pass away, and all will stand before God. VIEWPOINT Continued from page 7 RAMBLINGS Continued from page 7 least thirty Busch lites. Sever- al of the cans we found were un-opened as if someone had quit drinking or maybe some- one was trying to get rid of their beer quickly. My son commented about the cans would be easier to pick up with a grabber if they would smash them a little. I must ad- mit he has a great point but the roadway sure looked bet- ter and it wasn't that hard of a job. Sunday morning we had services at Velpen General Baptist although we were all running late except Pam and her son Devon got there on time and had things opened up for the rest of us. Our Sunday school lesson was about Jesus being the Lamb of God and His fore runner John the Baptist. John brought news of the Messiah and everyone was looking for the Savior but some were looking for someone to pull everyone together and mount war on their captors but Je- sus came to bring peace and love not fuss and fight. John showed the humbleness we should display when we are witnessing to others we are only a voice for God bringing good news to the world. Morning scripture lesson covered fighting and the fact that getting into it with oth- ers is sometimes a venting but it settles nothing and can create an enemy. We are in a fight but not with each other but with forces of being made to act like what others would have us to be, and to forces which have us do mean and disrespectful things to others. Be yourself in service for our Lord and don't allow the world to make you be something you aren't. Only you can be who God made you to be and He designed you for His work. As usual I ask for blessings for you and I ask God to help you be a blessing. When we're annoyed by some aspect of congregation- al life or caught in conflict with other members, it's tempting to drift away to another church — or no church. Even when all is fine, we sometimes let church take a backseat. But our bonds with the family of God are "part of the glue that holds life and faith together." For the sake of the benefits we gain and give, may we "hang in [and] stay con- nected" with our church fami- ly. May we not "walk away [or] be distracted, ... be too busy or tired." May we not take one another for granted but thank God for this "glue" — even when things get a bit sticky! Office hours: 9 a.m.-noon, Monday-Friday. Amy Melhiser, Secretary OTWELL WESLEYAN CHURCH 2277 N. Mechanics Street Otwell Pastor 812-354-3028 Praise and worship at 9 a.m.; Sunday school 9:30 a.m.; morn- ing worship 10 :30 a.m.; evening worship service 6:30 p.m. A young man was at the end of his rope. Seeing no way out, he dropped to his knees in prayer. "Lord, I can't go on," he said, "I have too heavy of a cross to bear." The Lord re- plied, "My son, if you can't bear its weight, just place your cross inside this room. Then, open that other door and pick out any cross you wish." The man was filled with re- lief and said, "Thank you, Lord," and he did as he was told. Upon entering the oth- er door, he saw many crosses, some so large the tops were not visible. Then, he spotted a tiny cross leaning against a far wall. "I'd like that one, Lord," he whispered. And the Lord replied, "My son, that is the cross you just brought in." When life's prob- lems seem overwhelming, it helps to look around and see what other people are coping with. You may consider your- self far more fortunate than you imagined. Continue to pray for one an- other. We invite all of you to come and worship with us.
