Mark Wade,Deacon FIRST CHRISTIAN CHURCH 1400 E. Main Street Petersburg 812-354-6775 This past Sunday we wrapped up our series, We are the Church, looking at how the New Testament calls us all as a church to go, and be disci- ple makers. Though we all in the body of Christ have differ- ent gifts, we all have one call. If you missed any of the three messages from this series I in- vite you to find them on our Facebook page. For many of us the season during this pandemic has been tough, plans have changed, 2020 didn't go the way we ex- pected it to. And some days we don't know what is next. But I remain encouraged that as we go on we can still find hope. We still find hope in God's sov- ereignty. Joseph in the Old Testament told his brothers "You meant this for evil." Meaning they intended evil for him, to beat him, sell him to slavery, and ultimately hope he would die in Egypt, and never to hear of him again. But he continues "God meant it for good…" Jo- seph doesn't say that God de- cided to show up in the midst of the chaos and work with what was there. Not even while his brothers were wishing and doing evil, God was setting up a good that no one could fore- see. So, while the enemy us- es pandemics, pestilence, dis- ease, violence, and death for evil, God is working for the ultimate good. The good we see when we see Christ on the throne, and as the psalm- ist says the earth has been made his footstool. Continue VINCENT CHRISTIAN CHURCH 8264 E. State Rd. 56 Sunday morning worship and the Lord's supper at 9:30 a.m.; Sunday school at 10 :30 a.m.; this Sunday evening, worship at 6:30 p.m. Present- ly, we are studying the topic: Practical Christianity. We are meeting in accordance with the concept of social distanc- ing and face masks. You are in- vited to worship with us. Some Quotes on Faith Someone said, "Faith and obedience are bound up in the same bundle. He that obeys God, trusts God, and he that trusts God, obeys God. He that is without faith is without works; and he that is without works is without faith." Perhaps Abraham is the classic example of faith and obedience, "By faith, Abra- ham, when he was called to go out into a place which he should after receive for an inheritance, obeyed; and he went out, not knowing where he went." Hebrews 11:8. Because He lives. Repentance is for eveyrone "But if we confess our sins to him, he is just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all wickedness." (1 John 1:9, NLT). Repentance is one of the main facets of a Christian's life. That's right, I said Chris- tians. Even we have fallen short of the glory of God. We all do wrong things for we are all human and are born in- to sin. The wonderful thing about our Mighty God is that he is quick to forgive us and show us his mercy and grace. Being a Christian is not all unicorns and rainbows as it is painted to be. For the Bible says we will be persecuted for our faith in and teachings of Jesus Christ. It is not a smooth road, but Jesus is there to help us and forgive us every step of the way. I say this to tell you that no one is perfect and that we all must repent of our sins on a daily basis. So that we may be counted worthy of en- tering into God's presence in heaven. We welcome you to all ser- vices. Come and worship Je- sus with us. See our Facebook page Glezen Revival Center. Rodney Fretwell, Sr. Pastor JESUS CHRIST OUR FIRM FOUNDATION 1415 N. Vincennes Ave. Petersburg 812-354-4424 or 812-582-0240 Sunday morning fellowship 10 a.m.; Church at 10 :30 a.m.; Bible studies: Tuesday night at 7:30 p.m. at Brian Eilert's house and Thursday night at 7 p.m. at church. "And after the Levites left, those from all the tribes of Is- rael, such as set their heart to seek the Lord God of Isra- el, came to Jerusalem to sac- rifice to the Lord God of their fathers" (II Chronicles 11:16). The country was split. Ten tribes appointed a new king and called themselves Isra- el. The other two supported the existing king and called themselves Judah after the tribe of their king. The new king of Israel set up a new temple for worship with an idol, so the Levites, who were priests and temple ser- vants for God, moved to Je- rusalem. Anyone who knew God's Word and sought a re- lationship with the Lord, re- spected and obeyed Him by continuing to have worship in Jerusalem. The majority fol- lowed the crowd and the new king. Choosing a church can be difficult. It shouldn't be cho- sen based on the number of people in the congregation. Make sure that you are mak- ing the right choice, and be- ing led by the Holy Spirit, both in choosing a church and in making daily decisions. The crowd isn't always right. Whatever you do, do in love. "But you—who do you say that I am? " Jesus asked. Si- mon Peter spoke up and said, "You are the Anointed One, the Son of the living God." Je- sus replied, "You are favored and privileged Simeon, son of Jonah. For you didn't discover this on your own, but my Fa- ther in heaven has supernatu- rally revealed it to you. I give you the name Peter, a stone. And this truth of who I am will be the bedrock foundation on which I will build my church— my legislative assembly, and the power of death will not be able to overpower it. I will give you the keys of heaven's kingdom realm to forbid on earth that which is forbidden in heaven, and to release on earth that which is released in heaven" (Matthew 16:15 - 19, TP T). A young man was being interviewed as a prospec- tive pilot for a paddle-wheel river boat on the Mississip- pi River. He was told, "We're looking for a man who knows where all the snags in the channel are located." The shifting sands and the dan- gerous snags embedded in them were a constant threat to the river boats. The appli- cant had to admit he didn't know where all the snags were. "But," he added, "I know where they're NOT- - and that's where the chan- nel is clear." He got the job. It's that way in religion. It's not necessary to know every snag of false religion, enough to know the channel, the true way to God. And such is Je- sus Christ. So many trials come into our lives and along with the business of life. These things can easily choke out the Life of God in us. But praise God, "But seek ye first the King- dom of God, and His righ- teousness; and all these things will be added unto you" (Matthew 6:33). What things will be add- ed?
