B-4 Wednesday, September 9, 2020 The Press-Dispatch Weisman and Barnett win in tri-meet By James Capozella Pike Central Middle School eighth grade Lady Charger Xavery Weisman and Char- ger eighth grader Blaine Bar- nett both made the top of the racing podium with first place finishes in the respective rac- es to kick off the first day of September. Weisman clocked 11:58 at North Knox and Bar- nett was in at 11:12 in the boys' race. The girls had first, fifth, sixth and ninth, followed by a fifth runner in 18th. The team finished a strong second, but the boys had just two top 15 runners and settled for a third place team score. Kylee Weathers and Kay- lyn Warner were fifth and sixth for the girls, with times of 13:23 and 13:28. Kylie Mey- er (13:44) ran ninth overall and Jessa Ridao finished 18th (14:31). Emiley Riker (14:34) was 19th. Taylor Skinner (15:20) placed 23rd, Katelyn Neal (16:31) was 29th, Eva Cox (17:08) was 31st, Kelsea Query (17:11) ran 32nd, Cal- leigh Cox (18:12) was 36th and Eibhlin Teague DNF. Barnett led classmate Ethan Mann (14:06), who placed ninth, Taylor Russell (14:55) was 13th, Xander Parker (17:14) was 20th and Justus Edrington (21:46) was 22nd. Jacoby Smith, Alex Gray and Joshua Smith did not have times or places. Weisman wins quad meet at South Knox Pike Central Middle School eighth grader Xavery Weis- man clocked 11:59 to capture a four-team cross country race at South Knox last week. South Knox, North Daviess and Washington had com- petitive teams edging the La- dy Chargers into fourth with 58 points, while Washington scored 56, South Knox 56 and North Daviess 44 for first. Kylee Weathers placed sec- ond for the team in 13:47, Kay- lyn Warner was third (14:03), Kylie Meyer fourth (14:21) and Jessa Ridao fifth (14:49). Emily Riker was sixth (14:53), Katelyn Neal seventh (15:40), Taylor Skinner eighth (16:03), Ava Miller ninth (16:46), Eva Cox tenth (17:42), Calleigh Cox 11th (18:02) and Kelsea Query 12th (18:14). The boys' team did not score because of numbers, but Blaine Barnett placed seventh overall with an 11:53 time. Taylor Russell was second for the team in 15:44, Zander Parker third (19:32) and Jus- tus Edrington fourth (25:23). Middle school tennis boys edged 3-2 by North Daviess Charger boys netters were edged by North Daviess, 3-2 on Tuesday, Sept. 1. The boys improved their performance, having lost to the Cougars 5 -0 earlier in the season, winning two singles matches. Parker Knust claimed his No. 1 singles match, 9 -7 and Eli Arnold took the No. 3 sin- gles match, 8 -2. No. 2 singles player JJ Bell- more lost a close contest, 6 -8. In doubles play, Nolan Bai- ley and Adon Lemond fell, 1-8 and the duo of Nate Carter and Jaden Bolin lost, 5 -8. Coach Phil Knust said winning two varsity singles showed a lot of improvement. The second round matches were a struggle for Pike Cen- tral, with Tyler Collins, Llinkyn Knust, Carter Blackwell and Jaden Bolin being blanked, 0 -6. In second round doubles, Ko- dy Carter and Eli Keeker fell, 2- 6. Nate Carter and Tyler Collins lost their match, 0 -6.
