The County Executive Director for the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Farm Service Agency (FSA) in Henderson, Polk, Transylvania and Rutherford counties, Kelly Springs, announced that farmers could be eligible for fi nancial assistance from the Coronavirus Food Assistance Program (CFAP). CFAP provides direct payments to producers of certain livestock, non-specialty and specialty crops, wool, and dairy. Now it also includes aquaculture, nursery, fl oriculture, and eggs. Producers should contact the FSA Offi ce in Hendersonville at 828-693- 1406 or the FSA Offi ce in Spindale at 828-287-4220 to sign up before the deadline of September 11, 2020. Livestock: Livestock eligible for CFAP include cattle, lambs, yearlings and hogs. The total payment will be calculated using the sum of the producer's number of livestock sold between January 15 and April 15, 2020, multiplied by the payment rates per head, and the highest inventory number of livestock between April 16 and May 14, 2020, multiplied by the payment rate per head. Specialty Crops, Non- Specialty Crops, and Other Crops: Specialty crops eligible for CFAP include over 50 types of fruits, vegetables, and other crops. Please see https://www. farmers.gov/cfap/specialty for a full list. Non-specialty crops eligible for CFAP payments include malting barley, canola, corn, upland cotton, millet, oats, soybeans, sorghum, sunfl owers, durum wheat, and hard red spring wheat. Wool is also eligible. Recently added categories are aquaculture, fl oriculture, nursery, and eggs. While most USDA Service Centers are open for business by phone appointment only, FSA is working with producers by phone and using email and online tools to process CFAP applications. Please call the FSA offi ce at your local USDA Service Center to schedule an appointment if you'd like assistance or have questions. A CFAP Call Center is available for producers who would like additional one- on-one support with the CFAP application process. Please call 877-508-8364 to speak directly with a USDA employee ready to offer assistance. The CFAP Call Center can provide service to non-English speaking customers. Customers will select 1 for English and 2 to speak with a Spanish speaking employee. For other languages, customers select 1 and indicate their language to the Call Center staff.
