McCann, 78, passed away at home, sur- rounded by his loved ones. He was married to the love of his life, Francine McCann, for 49 years. He was a beloved husband, father and grandfather. He en- joyed seeing his friends, fish- ing and NASCAR. He was a U.S. Army vet. He is survived by his chil- dren, Sandy, Michelle, Todd, Mikey and Tonya; five grand- children; two brothers; and three sisters. He was preceded in death by his mother; father; broth- er; and son. A graveside service will be at 2 p.m. EDT on Friday, Au- gust 21, 2020, at Walnut Hills Cemetery in Petersburg. Jackie Ray Lankford, Jr., 65, of Vincennes, formerly of Pike County, passed away at 5:57 p.m. on Wednesday, Au- gust 12, 2020, at his residence. He was born November 30, 1954, in Vincennes, to Jack- ie and Joretta (Cockerham) Lankford. He worked as a security guard and loved putting to- gether military models. In his earlier years, he lived in Alas- ka for 12 years and worked as a taxi driver. Surviving are his aunt, June Fletcher, of Vincennes; and an uncle, Guy Lankford, of Car- lisle. He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Rodney Lee Lankford. Graveside services were at 10 :30 a.m. Tuesday, August 18, 2020, at Walnut Grove Ceme- tery. Goodwin-Sievers Funer- al Home is honored to serve the family of Jackie Lankford. RITA CARROLL Rita Carroll, 64, of Peters- burg, went to be with the Lord on Friday, August 14, 2020. She was a devoted moth- er, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. She enjoyed cro- cheting, spending time with her family, singing and listen- ing to K-LOVE. She had ma- ny talents, including writing, drawing/sketching, cooking and cake decorating. Her faith and family were most import- ant to her; she instilled the im- portance of each into her chil- dren. She was the epitome of love. She had a silly sense of humor, loved to laugh and she had a great one. Her life wasn't easy, but she trusted God to guide her steps. Above all else, as much as she loved her fam- ily, she loved Jesus. Though our hearts are broken, we cel- ebrate her reunion with her previously passed family. She is survived by her chil- dren, Rhonda Glispie, Christi- na (Steve) Hadley, Sara (Bo) Warner, Irwin (Bethany) Glispie, Jacob (Sheri) Glispie and Scott (Amberly) Glispie; 13 grandchildren; one broth- er, Steve ( Wanda) Carroll; and four sisters, Hope Knipp, Sha- ron McDavid, Amber Carroll, and Pam (Ralph) Nutter. She was preceded in death by her mother, Rosie Bledsoe Carroll; her father, Ora Car- roll; and sister, Linda Mabry. Memorial services will be at 1 p.m. EDT on Saturday, Sep- tember 5, 2020, at Jesus Christ Our Firm Foundation Church. She was born May 2, 1942, in Dickenson County, Va., to the late James Eggers and Ha- zel (Bennett) Eggers. She enjoyed sewing and making quilts. She was dear- ly loved and will be missed. She is survived by her hus- band, Jerry Hunt; siblings, Ruby (Don) Yates, Betty Sue Rose, Alice ( Wade) Robinette, Jim (Margaret) Eggers, Dan (Darlene) Eggers, Kathy (Ar- chy Ennis) Turner Rose, and Connie ( Jerry Turner) Cress; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; daughters, Jen- nifer Hunt and Tammy Hunt; and sisters, Dolly Eggers and Rosalee Eggers. He was a U.S. Army veter- an and member of the French Lick American Legion. He worked for CSX Railroad, Jeff Boat, formerly of Jefferson- ville, and as a hod-carrier. He is survived by his moth- er, Mamie Haggard, of Loo- gootee; brothers, Andy (Mi- chelle) Haggard, of Loogoo- tee, and Stephen Lee Hag- gard, of Evansville; sister, Priscilla (Dick) Butrum; two daughters; and several nieces and nephews. He was born April 14, 1962, in Lawrenceville, Ill., to John Paul York and Jacklyn (Corbin) York. For many years, John owned and operated his own trucking company. He is survived by his par- ents, John Paul York and Jack- lyn York; one daughter, Casi York, of Bridgeport, Ill.; one granddaughter; two sisters, Becky (Ron) Owensby, of Al- abama, and Connie (Larry) Weisenberger, of Albion, Ill.; and one brother, Tom (Bren- da) York, of Otwell. I think we've finally got this thing figured out! " The next day: Huh. Why aren't the stabilizer jacks going down? "How's it go- ing? " my mom texts. "Great! I think we've finally got this thing fig- ured out! " The next day: impromp- tu jumping jacks as we skip and hop out of the way of the sewage hose, which has un- hooked and is spilling at our feet. "How's it going? " my mom texts. "Great! I think we've final- ly got this thing figured out! " The next day: What's the weird cracking sound when we put the sides out? "How's it going? " my mom texts. "Great! I think we've final- ly got this thing figured out! " Kids: "Why is my milk warm and lumpy? " I can't be sure, but I don't think my mom's texts are the cause of our constant strug- gles. Then again, she does make a very convincing witch every Halloween. Jumping into living in an RV full time is a humbling ex- perience. The learning curve is steep — and often steeped in knowledge of the dirty and disgusting nature. I won't dis- turb you with the tales of pot- ty clog trials, but let's just say that I lost a broom in the effort. "How's it going? " my mom texted yesterday. "Great! I think we've final- ly got this thing figured out! Turns out the stove didn't start because we ran out of propane. Off to fill her up! " "Great! " she texted back. "Seems easy enough! " We packed up our campsite. Put the chairs away, brought in the laundry, unhooked the electricity and unfastened the cellphone signal booster. We had to move quickly because the rain was coming soon and we wanted to get our propane tank filled and be back at our campsite before it poured down on us. Love's, where the RV dealer had told us to go for such things, was only a six-minute drive away. This will be a breeze. The skies were quickly darken- ing when we got there, but the process could not have been easier. I told the lady with Emma Thomp- son eyes and forehead (we're all in masks, so I can't speak to her nose and mouth) that we were newbies, and she said no problem. She would hook up the tank for us. Wonderful news. My husband pulled the RV around. Emma Thompson Eyes took the propane tank out of the cage. And I watched expectantly, curious how the large tank would somehow fit into the small holding con- tainer. That's when everyone paused. "Oh! " said Emma Thomp- son Eyes. "I need to give you a refund, hon. I don't know how to hook this up." "Oh! " said my husband. "Oh! " said I. "Do you know where we should go for a pro- pane fill? " Emma Thompson Eyes said we should go to the local RV repair shop, about four miles down the road. There was now lightning in the indigo skies, but at least we knew where we were going, and surely the pro- cess couldn't take that long. When we arrived at the lo- cal RV repair shop, they said their tank was empty. We could, of course, go to the Pet- ro and fill her up there. The Petro had been next to the Love's. We drove back the 4 miles, and I said to my husband, "At least the rain has held out." We parked the RV in front of the tank just as the sky cracked open and a waterfall poured out. My husband ran in to tell them we needed as- sistance. He came back look- ing as if he had been swal- lowed by a river. Then there was trouble filling the tank. The whole ordeal took us three hours. "What do you do all day? " my mom often texts. I usual- ly can't think of the answer. A million little things that take longer than they should. I guess the truest response to her question would be, "Learn." Learn the hard way. Learn the jacks weren't go- ing down because of air pock- ets. Learn you have to screw in the sewage hose so it doesn't come undone. Learn to check for items that have fallen in- to the space where the sides go out. Learn the fridge has to be checked to make sure it's connecting to the electricity so the milk doesn't get warm and lumpy. "How's it going? " my mom texted this morning. "Great!
