Thanks to the volunteers from Carolina Cross Connection, Mr. Shade and his family now have a safe entry into their home along with room for his family to sit and play outside. "The group was very professional and very courteous," Mr. Shade said, clearly smiling behind his mask. "Everything they said they were going to do, they did it in a timely fashion. It just helps me out beyond words." Mr. Shade is a disabled Navy veteran who served for eight years during the Gulf War. He said the new deck makes a big difference for his family of four. Prior to the work made possible by Carolina Cross Connection and Rutherford Housing Partnership, the family did not have the safest entry into their home. The old steps were made of concrete and blocks and they were not very secure. Mr. Shade explained his old deck had a lot of loose boards and it was often a very muddy walk to the house in the rain. "The new deck makes a big difference," he said. Mr. Shade saw a local newspaper article about the Rutherford Housing Partnership. He reached out right away and learned he could qualify for help. Overall he said he found the process easy. Now the new, safe deck enables the entire family to enjoy some peace and quiet while providing a safe place for his four year old son to play. "It means the world to me. I just don't know how else to say it." A new deck means safety for a veteran and his family in Ellenboro Article Provided By: Rutherford Housing Partnership, Inc.
