Brown bonds on criminal confinement and battery By James Capozella A warrant for felony 5 crimi- nal confinement and level 6 do- mestic battery was issued by Pike Circuit Court for Johnny Mack Brown, 59, of 8996 E. Brown Road, Velpen, based on a probable cause affidavit from Indiana State Trooper Chase Eaton. Brown turned himself in and has since posted a $10,000 bond on those charges. Offi- cers were dispatched to 927 Harmony Way in Evansville regarding a domestic battery that occurred on the morn- ing of Friday, July 17 in Pike County. Mindy Potts, 53, of 8996 E. Brown Road, Velpen, was in- terviewed at her aunt's res- idence following her trip to Deaconess Gateway ER for medical care for cuts and X- rays of injuries to her ribs. Potts reported that she was afraid for her life and had got- ten away from Brown, who would not let her leave the Vel- pen residence. A fter Brown became irate and swore at her, he took her for a ride in his SUV to talk things over. Instead of taking her to her family in Oakland City like she asked, Brown drove her down a gravel ac- cess road near his house in Velpen, according to the affi- davit. When it became apparent Brown was not taking her home, Potts jumped from the vehicle while it was traveling at 25 mph or more. She took cover in a ditch but Brown found her, grabbed her by the arms and torso, and forced her back into the passenger seat. At that time, Potts jumped over into the driver's seat in an attempt to get away. Brown then began to pull her against her will, and he put his hands around her neck and squeezed. A fter Potts was put in the passenger's seat, Brown drove to Jasper and Potts said she was unable to jump out, due to the speed. The two stopped at several places, including Den- ny's, before coming back to Pike County. Potts got out of the vehicle after a sudden stop at the Otwell Junction and got a woman who witnessed the SUV's sudden stop to drive her to her family in Oakland City. Potts had heavy bruising on the left side of her abdomen, which was consistent with her story about movements in the SUV, according to the affida- vit. Potts also was forthcom- ing about narcotics use, in- cluding methamphetamine, between her and Brown.
