Cale Beck and Morgan Vaal took the first place prize that in- cluded a total payout of $ 300. Keith Brock and Allen Nel- son took second place, and Co- rey Cox and Jesse Hedge came in third. The team of Scot Ghetch and Alan Faith placed fourth, and Scott Reeves and Hunter Reeves were fifth. Beau Dillon and Zeb Frasurs were sixth, Eric Slunder and Josh Braunecker seventh, and Lou Karsner eighth. It was the last game of the season for Petersburg Little League 10U players this past week. Petersburg Welding Unlimited's Kylee Query looked at a couple of high pitches and then singled through the infield last week in a game against Pe- tersburg Gray. Charger fall sports to begin with safety in mind By James Capozella Pike Central High School Athletics Director Dustin Powell said his biggest concern with the startup of fall sports is the safety and he thinks "our coach- es are working for that and doing a good job." Powell added, "I think we are, for the most part, where we should be re- garding the Indiana High School Ath- letic Association, all health mandates and the governor. We have been fortu- nate since we started with coaches keep- ing attendance and monitoring the kids. We've had really good turnouts and the kids understand what to do if they want to play." Powell said golf practice started this week for the girls and they have two matches next week. They are at home at Prides Creek Golf Course on Monday at 5 p.m. and then Wednesday at 2 p.m. He said ladies' golf is a little different than the other fall sports, having an ear- lier schedule and not needing as much conditioning, such as running. The soccer girls have a scrimmage next Saturday, and the boys have a scrimmage set for August 11, and on- ly require five practices. Ten practices are required for the regular schedules for football, cross country, soccer and tennis. Powell said the football scrim- mage is August 14 and the first contest is with Brown County on Friday, August 21. They then play Tecumseh away and South Spencer away, and Southridge at home. Washington is away, followed by North Knox on Weathers Field. Tell City is a road trip and Forest Park is here, followed by North Posey at Poseyville to wrap up the regular season on Octo- ber 16. Nevaeh Lemond keeps her head down as she hits a tee shot on hole 8 at Prides Creek. Nevaeh was participating in Pike Central's girls' golf prac- tice. The Lady Chargers open their season at 5 p.m. on Monday, August 3 with Tecumseh. They will play at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, August 5 against Washington.
