"Woe to you who desire the day of the Lord! For what good is the day of the Lord to you? It will be darkness and not light" (Amos 5:18). We often want the next mile- stone to arrive when we are in the middle of a hard time in life. We look forward to big events years ahead, like the age to drive a car, graduate or retire. What we tend to ig- nore are the things that might be difficult during those times ahead. Things that can be un- expected and devastating at the time may happen even during the milestone years, but nothing can compare to the day of judgment to come. Some people, like those be- ing spoken to, will be con- demned to an eternity of com- plete darkness. They look for- ward to something that will be completely different than what they believe it to be. God wants us to be ready for that day. He has provided all we need, even for that day. It may arrive soon- er than expected. Practice rest- ing in the Lord now so you can do likewise in the time to come. The rock of the Christian faith has always been the au- thority of the scriptures. God's living Word has been and still is the all-sufficient Word. If you need grace, He says, "My grace is sufficient for thee" (II Corinthians 12:9). If your soul is thirsty, He says, "If any man thirst, let him come unto me and drink" ( John 7:37). If your soul is hungry, He says, "I am the bread of life" ( John 6:35). If you are spiritually naked, He will clothe you with the "robe of righteousness" and cover you with the "garments of salvation" (Isaiah 61:10). If you are dissatisfied, He "satisfieth the longing soul" (Psalms 107:9). Look to the never-chang- ing Word. "Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away" (Matthew 13:31).
