Directo of Real Estate Department of Financial and Professional Regulation State of Illinois A prominent advocate, attorney, and government official based in Chicago, Treto currently serves in Gov. J.B. Pritzker's cabinet as head regulator for the state's real estate industry. The son of Mexican immigrants and the first in his family to receive a high school education, Treto mentors youth interested in government and nonprofit careers, and supports several civic and charitable causes. He is the youngest and first Latinx chairperson of the Board of Directors for Howard Brown Health. ANN VALENCIA City Clerk City of Chicago Valencia was first sworn in as city clerk Jan. 25, 2017, overseeing one of the largest offices in the city, generating more than $130 million annually. Under her leadership, the clerk's office has made it a priority to find new and innovative ways to bring services directly to residents. Prior to becoming Clerk, Valencia served as the second woman and first Latina to be director of Legislative Counsel and Government Affairs under former Mayor Rahm Emanuel. GILBERT VILLEGAS Alderman, 36th Ward City of Chicago Villegas served as the first Latino floor leader in the City Council, co-chairs the Committee on Aviation, and sits on five other committees. He plans to use these positions to help Chicago's Latino community prosper. Villegas was first elected to the city council in 2015 after a long career of public service. He served in the United States Marine Corps, at nonprofit and for- profit companies, and as the chief of staff to the Illinois Capital Development Board. NORMAN WHITE CURLING Hate Crime Victim Advocate Chicago Commission on Human Relations White-Curling has been an employee of the city for 23 years. In his current position he works closely with the Cook County State's Attorney's Office, the State of Illinois and non-governmental entities to advocate for and provide support to victims of hate crimes. He works with communities to educate them about the Chicago Human Rights Ordinance, and in concert with the Chicago Police Department and the FBI, he helps identify places of worship and organizations for active shooter trainings. NUBIA WILLIAM Director for the Mayor's Office of New Americans City of Chicago In her position, William is responsible for immigration policy and programming. That includes leading the city's U.S. Census outreach efforts, increasing language access, and working with community stakeholders to increase services for Chicago's immigrant and refugee communities. Prior to joining the Mayor's Office, William worked at Legal Aid Chicago for nine years where she represented survivors of gender- based crimes and low-wage workers seeking immigration and employment relief.
