The Press-Dispatch Wednesday, July 8, 2020 B-3 to the Constitution. Traditionally, we think of America as a Christian nation. We understand what most peo- ple mean when they say that Christianity is having a per- sonal relationship with Christ. The only hope for America is for the clergy to speak out with a clear Biblical message that calls sin by its name and pro- claim a message of salvation that changes lives. Socialism is not the answer. There is no government handout or pro- gram that meets the needs of children like having a loving, caring mother and father. Mar- riage must be protected and the church must come alive with a straight forward mes- sage of truth. VIEWPOINT Continued from page 1 RAMBLINGS Continued from page 1 the same time. Sometimes the right of way has nothing to do with how long you have been waiting. A courteous driver usually takes this into account but be- ing a courteous driver doesn't seem to be very important ei- ther. I said I would take a soft- er approach and due to the fact I am getting older and proba- bly make many mistakes with my driving. I'll just ask that we all try to think about what we are doing while driving and strive to be a more courteous driver. Finally got the family room livable again and I sure don't look forward to another re- modeling job but you never know what may come. Our garage was a total wreck after being a storage locker and a tool barn for about five weeks. It is in better shape now and we are recuperating. We have got- ten rid of most the aches and pains which come with redo- ing a room. Si Ashley read we were go- ing to clean our windows and was concerned about us be- ing on a ladder. He didn't of- fer to help but he told us about someone from Washington who does windows. Hopefully it won't be as bad as it sounds. We were blessed with a pret- ty but hot day at Cup Creek car show last Saturday. We didn't win anything but our 87 Fire- bird got lots of attention and had several pictures taken of it. One friend said the seats weren't the original color and I told him they had red inlays sewn in them. We had a good Sunday school lesson from anoth- er chapter from the book of Proverbs and Sister Linda has been putting lots of thought and study into her lessons. Our morning scripture cov- ered the subject of freedom and being independent. It is good to be free from the world and to be an independent in- dividual but never smug and start thinking you are doing things without God's help, because your freedom could cause you to take a fall. I didn't have an opportuni- ty to wish you a Happy Fourth and a big thanks to all who have helped us remain free by serving in the military Well let's get out into the world and become a blessing to all we meet. Lutheran Methodist Nazarene Pentecostal Presbyterian Wesleyan Popsicles and Jesus Join us outside using social distancing recommendations. Free popsicles, a short lesson and a take home activity will be given. Parents are encouraged to stay and be a part of this as well. Kids ages preschool to middle school. Questions? Hosea 2:20 says, "I will be- troth you to Me in faithful- ness, and you shall know the Lord." God is speaking to us here, attaching himself to us with His faithfulness. We can trust this faithfulness because it has been proven time and time again, when being tested by people who, like us, are not always faith- ful to God. Thankfully the Lord is forgiving and has pro- vided for our righteousness through His Son. The betrothal period is the time for a couple to get to know the character of each other before they get mar- ried. Since the wedding sup- per of the Lamb takes place in Heaven, our time on earth is the time to get to know more about Him and to learn to love Him as we should. We already know how much He loves us. So many trials come into our lives and along with the business of life. These things can easily choke out the Life of God in us. But praise God, "But seek ye first the King- dom of God, and His righ- teousness; and all these things will be added unto you" (Matthew 6:33). What things will be add- ed? How is it free- ing? "Jesus, I'm saddened when I realize how often I try to face life's temptations and struggles on my own, as if I'm self-suffi- cient, as if I don't need You. Thank you for your unending love and patience with me"— Amen. Josh Sanders, Pastor Sherry Julian, Reporter body of Christ may be built up until we all reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God and become ma- ture, attaining to the whole mea- sure of the fullness of Christ" (Ephesians 4:11-13, NIV ). Ron Vickers, Pastor Elaine Young, Reporter, 812-749 -1122 (leave a mes- sage). MAIN STREET PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH 10th and Main Streets, Petersburg 812-354-6844 Sunday worship 10 :30 a.m. Come visit us, our doors are al- ways open to you. An online search for "adver- tising fails" reveals some hilar- ious and cringe-worthy signs. Often the "fail" is due to an ad's placement. For example, a bill- board about childhood obesity appears next to one for a fast- food restaurant, and a promo- tion for The Walking Dead is posted near a mortuary. As Christ's ambassadors on Earth (see 2 Corinthians 5:20), we serve as walking, talking billboards for Jesus and our faith. Despite our sinfulness — and often "cringe-worthiness" — Jesus lives in us, whom he created to do good works (see Ephesians 2:10). Even though we will never be perfect billboards for Jesus, let's not cover up our message. Instead, let's embrace the privi- lege of being salt and light (see Matthew 5:13-16), proclaiming the gospel in a dark world. Office hours: 9 a.m.-noon, Monday-Friday. Amy Melhiser, Secretary OTWELL WESLEYAN CHURCH 2277 N. Mechanics Street Otwell Pastor 812.354.3028 Morning worship at 10 :30 a.m.; Sunday school at 9:30 a.m. and evening worship at 6:30 p.m. Put God first To truly put God first you have to let go of what others think and follow your heart. When you put God first, you give yourself a voice. You ex- press yourself in a way that is true to you. Giving God the first priority enables us to experience peace in our lives. Knowing that our lives are directed by God gives us comfort and peace and saves us from unnecessary worry. God is a caring God and he doesn't want us to worry about anything. "Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you" (I Pe- ter 5:7 NIV ). If anyone has a need, you can call the pastor at 812-354-3028. Roy Stilwell, Pastor Pam Lemond, Reporter scheduled for Wednesday evening, July 15 from 6:30 to 7:30. All children ages preschool through middle school are invited, and par- ents are welcome to attend as well. Peace and joy in the Lord. Mark Schlechty, Pastor HOUSE OF MERCY CHURCH Corner of East and Porter Winslow Pastor 812-789-5229 A Church with open arms and a loving heart. Sunday morning wor- ship at 10:15 a.m.; Sunday school at 11 a.m. We are back having Sunday ser- vices. This is the hour to sell out to God if you are a Chris- tian. If you are not a child of God now is the time to make that choice and then be all you can be for Jesus. As we read the Word of God we can definitely see the end of the times are around us. Also Jesus states three times in the Word about be- ing deceived and truly ma- ny are deceived to believe the lies of the enemy. The Word says in the last days they would call evil good and good evil and we are there. Time to give it all to Jesus. Will you? Keep our President, Vice-President, and the cabinet in your prayer to make the right decisions. Remember those in the hospitals, nursing homes that are in a place of no family or friends coming to visit. Also pray for fami- lies, your friends and neigh- bors that do not know Jesus as their Lord and Saviour and for revival fire to begin to burn fresh and anew. God's Servant. George Bruce Jr., Pastor
