B-2 Wednesday, July 8, 2020 The Press-Dispatch PAWS WEEK PAWS WEEK Pet of the TWINK "Kittens are angels with whiskers"—Alexis Flora Hope. This week PAWS features a capricious young kitten named Twink. One minute she is running wild on the cat porch at PAWS and the next minute she is napping in a kitty condo. She is a very busy young feline and would love to a have a little girl to spend her days with. Twink has plush blue fur with a white diamond shaped patch of fur on her chest and a bit of white fur on either side of her nose. She has a daunting person- ality and can be adopted by calling PAWS at 812-354- 9894. See our Facebook page: www.facebook.com/Ayrshi- reValleyGB. Frank A. Coleman, Pastor CROSSROADS BAPTIST CHURCH 2789 S. State Rd 57 Oakland City The next few weeks will begin a busy time at Cross- roads as setup begins for two great events. The first event will occur on July 18, at 9 a.m. till noon, CDT) as we will have our annual back- pack giveaway. While school dismissed early last spring for the Coro- navirus, it appears that ma- ny schools in Gibson Coun- ty are planning on return- ing the first week in August. Therefore, we are gearing up for back-to-school. Mark your calendars for this great event so you won't miss it. Our other event coming this month is Vacation Bible School ( VBS). Our VBS will be the week of July 20 -24 and promises to be a great time for children. Age groups three year old to sixth grade are welcome and encour- aged to come each week- night. Our theme this year is BOOT Camp. We have some great stuff planned, so mark your calen- dars for this event too. Also, our Wednesday eve- ning activities are back. Each Wednesday, we will have multiple activities for children: a new summer ac- tivity called "Surf's Up" for ages three to fifth grade; and for older kids, sixth grade will resume a very popular activity from last summer called "RC 4 JC". Both age groups start at 6 p.m. CDT. Adults, we are not leaving you out. Each Wednesday while the chil- dren are busy with their ac- tivity, we will be setting up our outreach events and we could use your help. As always, many excit- ing things are happening at Crossroads. Come for a vis- it! If you can't make it this Wednesday, perhaps com- ing and visiting on Sunday will work. Our church services start at 10 :30 a.m. CDT each Sun- day and Sunday school at 9:30 a.m. We would love to be your place of worship. If you do not have a church home we would love for you to choose Crossroads. Hope to see you soon. Curt Beadle, Pastor GLEZEN G.B. CHURCH Corner of Center and Sycamore Sunday worship at 10 :30 a.m. No Sunday school. Wednesday Bible study at 6:30 p.m. Remember those on our prayer list, the shut-ins and our lost loved ones. All of us want to make wise decisions; no one wants to make foolish ones. However, knowing God's wisdom and will requires intention and discipline. It's much easier to go with the flow of the world and pursue what it says is best and right or easiest and most fun. That pursuit leads to an often bitter end. "Choose my instruction instead of silver, knowledge rather than choice gold, for wisdom is more precious than rubies, and nothing you desire can compare with her" (Proverbs 8:10 -11 NIV ). "If I shut up heaven that there be no rain, or if I com- mand the locusts to devour the land, or if I send pesti- lence among my people; If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will he- al their land" (II Chronicles 7:13-14). Augusta Broadway Street Winslow Pastor 812-582-0756 Sunday morning worship at 10 :15 a.m.; children Sun- day school during morning worship; at the present time we are having no children church. We are having services but we are practicing social dis- tance. "You shall know the truth and the truth shall make you free" ( John 8:12). Many today say there is no such thing as absolute truth. From philosophers to pop musicians, the word goes out that "truth" is only what you want it to be, and what is "true" for you isn't neces- sarily "true" for anyone else. But Jesus Christ is abso- lute truth. Dozens of times He declares, "I tell you the truth." In one of His bold- est and most uncompromis- ing statements He affirmed, "I am the way the truth and the life" ( John 14:6). The writer of the Gospel of John stated, Grace and truth came through Jesus Christ ( John 1:17). James said that God "chose to give us birth through the word of truth" James 1:18). If at any time you have no church to attend, your pres- ence will be greatly appreci- ated and I know you will feel God's blessings. Socially distancing is still in place and until further notice there will be no chil- dren's church or Sunday night fellowship. Thought for the week: "Je- sus Christ is the same yes- terday and today and forev- er" (Hebrews 14:8). Be in prayer for the lost, the sick, our church, our country and leaders, and al- ways each other. God's bless- ings on you this week. Main Street Petersburg 812-354-6775 Regular services: Sunday school 9:30 a.m. and worship service at 10 :30 a.m. Reflections of Psalm 8 What is the first thing that comes out of your mouth on a daily basis? I have been think- ing about this for a while now. I don't want to get stuck down a prosperity gospel rabbit hole, but I believe the first things we think about, reflect on, and speak in the morning will guide and determine our day. If the first thing out of our mouth is how horrible today will be, then today may be hor- rible. If the first thing we think about is the sin in our heart, we will spend the day captive by sin, instead of taking every thought captive. I love the Psalms, I love re- flecting on David and the oth- er Psalmists words to God. Sometimes the Psalms are a pendulum swing of emotion. But many of us can open the psalms and find one we can resonate with. What I love about Psalm 8 is it declares, poetically the glory of God as the writer looks over creation. I believe when we open our mouths from the time we wake up, to the time we lay down, to proclaim the glory of God, it would change the entire out- look of our days and our lives. DJ Bryant, Pastor VINCENT CHRISTIAN CHURCH 8264 E. State Rd. 56 Sunday morning worship and the Lord's supper at 9:30 a.m. and evening worship at 6:30 p.m. We will meet in ac- cordance to social distancing and with face masks. You are invited to worship with us. Salvation Someone has said, "No one is saved by works of merit, but no one can be saved without works of obedience to Jesus, our Lord." James 2:21-24: "Was not our ancestor Abraham con- sidered righteous for what he did when he offered his son Isaac on the altar? You see that his faith and his action were working together, and his faith was made complete by what he did." "And the scripture was ful- filled that says, 'Abraham be- lieved God, and it was credited to him as righteousness, and he was called God's friend." "You see that a person is jus- tified by what he does and not by faith alone." Because He lives. "For ye have need of pa- tience, that, after ye have do- ne the will of God, ye might receive the promise" (He- brews 10 :36). God's promise is a projec- tion from Himself that we may take hold of. A promise is like a rope thrown to a man overboard by which he can be drawn up to the vessel; so by promises we are brought up by the Divine Spirit, into fel- lowship with Him. There are over thirty-two thousand promises in the Bible, and they touch every phase of human experience. Promise of pardon, for cleans- ing from all sin, for keeping, correcting, guiding, healing, perplexity, business life, time, eternity and widows. Promises for war and peace, for home and abroad, for pov- erty and wealth, for sickness and health, for death. Prom- ises for daily bread and cloth- ing, for home on earth and mansions in the skies. God has floored the earth with promises and roofed the skies with promises. We are born on a promise and God meets us with a promise. Chad Searls, Pastor TWIN OAKS CHURCH 1911 E. Co. Rd. 650 N.
