Some people change the channel when a game comes on. On the other side of the spectrum, you'll find people who trade their shirts for bare bellies painted with team colors. There are, however, some names that transcend both groups, names that are easily identified by everyone from the biggest sports fans to the biggest sports haters, and ev- eryone in between. From Wayne Gretzky, Tiger Woods and Serena Williams to Muhammad Ali, Babe Ruth and Tony Hawk, some names carry so much weight that our brains automatically respond with images, moments and memories. How do they do it? What does it take to go from being someone, to being "The Great One?" Is there a secret to making the leap between being good and being "The Greatest?" Apple TV+ attempts to an- swer that question on Friday, July 10, with the help of some of the sporting world's mod- ern greats, in its new, seven- part docuseries, "Greatness Code." You need to have some- thing extra special to get to the point where your name is written in the history books while you're still playing the game — that's exactly what the co-producers of this series have accomplished. LeBron James' organization Uninter- rupted and Tom Brady's Reli- gion of Sports partnered with Apple as producers to bring "Greatness Code" to life. Founded upon the idea that true greatness comes from empowering others, these companies have set out to de- fine the path to over-achieve- ment by interviewing legends about their most newsworthy moments, giving viewers un- precedented insight into what it takes to reach the top. Sea- son 1 features episodes on both James and Brady, but it also focuses on sports and Olympians that are less "mainstream" but equally im- pressive. Florida native Kelly Slater is the greatest professional surfer in the history of the sport. He is both the youngest and oldest surfer to win a world title and holds the record for most con- secutive world titles, as well as most world titles overall. Slater also took part in HBO's "24/7" series back in 2019.
