Growing up in the Sierra Nevada Foothills, wildfire has always been
a fear in my family's heart. In 1988 our home was uncomfortably
close to Northern California's infamous 49er fire and we witnessed
the destructive and life-threatening potential that fires can have
on a community. Back then however, the annual fire season was
not as long or severe as it is today.
