Entertainment Now | June 13 - 19, 2020 By Rachel Jones TV Media Geeks speak: Who would make a better president, Tony Stark or The Doctor? Imagine a group of your favorite pop culture- loving celebrities sitting down to discuss questions like this for half an hour. Awesome, right? Well, you can catch the real thing when "The Great Debate" premieres Thursday, June 18, on Syfy. The show is hosted by Baron Vaughn ("Grace and Frankie"), but he's not alone up there. He has a snarky robot sidekick named DB-8 to keep things in- teresting. Vaughn is surrounded by different celebrities through- out the season, and so far we've been promised names such as Mayim Bialik ("The Big Bang Theory"), Orlando Jones ("Sleepy Hollow"), Adam Sav- age ("Mythbusters") and Aisha Tyler ("Criminal Minds"). "The Great Debate" has been developed by executive produc- ers T.J. Chambers ("Cosplay Melee"), Rhett Bachner ("Thanks A Million") and Brien Meagher ("Shark Tank") and is based on the live panel discus- sions that Syfy Wire has been putting on at Comic Cons every- where for years. The extremely popular events have helped to shape the celebrity panels that Vaughn runs in the show, each one a half-hour long. During each episode, Vaughn presents his celebrity panelists with questions based on pop and geek culture, and they each have a chance to weigh in and share their opinions. But, unlike many discussions that fizzle out undecided, each of these ques- tions gets a definitive verdict from Vaughn, based on how well the panelists defend their points of view. So, if you've ever wondered whether zombies or Klingons would win in a fight, and relish the thought of a debate on the matter, tune in for the series pre- miere of "The Great Debate," Thursday, June 18, on Syfy. Kissing in the Keys: When the tide brings in a wave of truth, nothing will ever be the same again — a new season of "Siesta Key" premieres Tuesday, June 16, on MTV. The sexy reali- ty drama follows a group of friends as they party on the gor- geous beaches of Siesta Key. Season 3 was originally set to air earlier this year, but the show's schedule was interrupt- ed (like everything else) by the global pandemic. Now, the show is hitting MTV just in time for summer, and the only thing hotter than the weather is the budding romance. "Siesta Key," which originally premiered in July 2017, was in- spired by the success of "Lagu- na Beach: The Real Orange County." This season sees the return of some of your favorite beachgoers, such as Brandon Gomes, Madisson Hausburg and Chloe Trautman, and everyone at Siesta Key knows that when you play in the sun, you're bound to get burned. Season 2 ended with a huge reveal: Alex Kompothecras and Alyssa Salerno were going to have a baby. And, while the sea- son's trailer shows Alex profess- ing that Alyssa is the best girl- friend, there's more to the story bubbling under the surface. Ju- liette Porter lays everything out on the table when she calls up Alyssa to brutally inform her of her affair with Alex. Will Alyssa be able to forgive him? Are there more secrets ready to come out? Make sure you check out the latest season of "Siesta Key," airing Tuesday, June 16, on MTV. Good 'Karma': We all know that what goes around comes around. Well, maybe these chil- dren don't know — but they'll soon learn! HBO has taken on an unusual program with "Kar- ma," which premieres Thursday, June 18, on the specialty chan- nel's new streaming service, HBO Max. This series is pro- duced with a much younger au- dience in mind than the usual HBO fare. YouTube star Michelle Khare ("How to Survive a Break-Up"), who has over two million fol- lowers, hosts this kids competi- tion show. The contestants range in ages from 12 to 15 and compete against 15 others to solve mental and physical chal- lenges that will push them to their limits. And, as the name implies, these kids also learn a few hard lessons in the rules of karma. They have the opportunity to make social choices that affect the game and the hurdles they have to face. Will the contes- tants fall apart? Or will they learn patience, humility and em- pathy as they move through the game? The network is also releasing another show for kids called "Craftopia," which is hosted by another YouTuber. Perhaps HBO is jumping on the bandwagon after watching the rise in ratings from their fellow kid-focused station, Nickelodeon. Whatever the reason, it's certainly a good idea to cater to the young dur- ing this uncertain time. Your kids can catch the first episode of "Karma" when it premieres Thursday, June 18, on HBO Max.
