WILLIAM EDWARD "ED" SMITH Mr. William Edward "Ed" Smith, 83, of Shelby, NC passed away on Wednesday, May 27, 2020 at White Oak Manor in Kings Mountain, NC. He was born on October 30, 1936 in Cleveland County, NC as the first son of the late Levi Smith and Fleeta Camp Smith. "Ed" was a graduate of Camp High School and he was drafted into the U.S. Army. He was employed for over thirty years at Fiber Industries becoming a super- visor before his retirement. In 1966, Ed married his wife, Molene and together they raised and nurtured their two sons, Lopez and Everett. He was a devoted family man to them. At an early age, Ed joined Shoal Creek Baptist Church where he was a deacon and was a singer with the Male and Senior Choirs. In his spare time, he enjoyed gardening, fishing, cooking, traveling and he loved sports particularly softball and bas- ketball. Although Ed was stern, he enjoyed making people laugh and doting on his grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, Molene Byers Smith. Left to cherish fond mem- ories are his sons, Lopez Smith (Iris) of Shelby, NC and Everett Smith (Cera) of Concord, NC; five grand- children, DaMarcus Smith, Jada Smith, Jalen Smith, Kendall Smith and Manning Armstrong; his siblings, Versia Gilmore, Elizabeth Willis, Frances Seary, Ruby Moses (Carey), Willie Mae Miller, Joseph Smith (Philann), Levi "L.B." Smith, John Smith (Merlene), Waymon "Gene" Smith, Gwen Campbell (Marsh) and Alberta Short who was raised as a sister; two sis- ters-in-law, Ruby Miller and Sallie Houey; special cousin- in-law, Patricia Maddox and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. MICHAEL "MIKE" BRUCE PRESSNALL Lawndale: Michael "Mike" Bruce Pressnall, 65, died Sunday, May 31, 2020, at his home. A native of Madison County, IN, he was the son of the late Dale and Velma Wilson Pressnall. Mike worked as a master electrician and attended New Beginnings Baptist Church. He was an avid NASCAR fan, enjoyed col- lecting guns, and had a love of sports. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, David Pressnall. He is survived by his loving wife of 39 years, Kimberly Tackett Pressnall; son, Shane Pressnall, both of the home; daughter, Holly Dannelle Desfosses and husband David of Maine; grandchildren, Tyler Rosier and Aly Desfosses; and his best friend, Buddy Mabbit of IN. The family hosted a gathering and service 1pm, Saturday, June 6, 2020, at their home, 2107 Curt Ledford Road, Lawndale, with the Rev. John Justice officiating. Chris is survived by his Mother Angelia Camp Taylor, his Wife Sandy Camp, his Son Nathan Ray Dixon, his Daughter Naomi Ruth Camp, Sister Pamella and Brothers- in-law Allen Fields, Sister Mandy and Brothers-in-law Tyronn Threats, Sister Marie Taylor and Sister-in-law Rebekah, Brother Conley Taylor III and Sister-in-law Rebecca, Brother Chris J Camp, Uncles Danny Camp, Richard Camp, and Clifford Camp, Aunt Kimberly Carpenter, 5 nephews, and 4 nieces as well as beloved grandparents Ronnie and Linda Caldwell. He is preceded in death by Father Danny Causby, Grandfather Maynard Camp, Uncle Tommy Dean Camp, Jermie Cain Camp and Nephew Landyn Taylor. Chris was born on March 21st, 1984 at Cleveland Memorial Hospital in Shelby, NC. He was a Kings Mountain native and was a loving father. His children are his pride and joy. He loved being outdoors and riding his motorcycle, he also worked outdoors build- ing homes and docks. Arrangements are private but a memorial will be held at a later date. SHARON MOORE HOLLAND Blacksburg- Mrs. Sharon Moore Holland, 66, passed away on Friday, May 29 2020 at Cherokee Medical Center. Mrs. Holland, was born on March 16, 1954 to the late George Turner Moore and Minnie Griffin Moore. She was the wife of Mr. Danny Holland of thirty- six years. She was of the Pentecostal Faith and loved sewing and singing. She also used her sewing skills to design clothes and cos- tumes to make every event memorable. In addition to her par- ents she was preceded in death by two brothers; Larry Thurston Moore of Dallas NC and George Morris Moore of Gastonia NC. In addition to her husband, Mrs. Holland is survived by her son, Rocky Towery MARY JANE SEAGLE Mary Jane Seagle, 84, of Lawndale, passed away on Monday, June 1, 2020 at Hospice at Wendover. Born in Cleveland County, on April 19, 1936, she was the daughter of the late Leslie Willie Seagle and Ima Davies Carpenter Seagle. She retired from Statesville High School after 33 years of service. Mary Jane was a member of Carpenters Grove Baptist Church. She was a member of ECA, Belwood Community Club and was treasurer for Delta Kappa Gamma. She was preceded in death by her brother, John Carpenter Seagle. Survivors include a neph- ew, Sammy Seagle and wife, Patricia of Lawndale; great nieces and nephews, Sara Melton and husband, Dusty of Fallston, Jay Seagle and wife, Tori of Belmont and Austin Seagle and fiancée, Brenda Fioritto of Lawndale and great-great nieces, Sydney and Penelope Melton. The body lay in state from 3:00 PM to 3:45 PM on Wednesday, June 3, 2020 at Carpenter's Grove Baptist Church. RUTH SPERLING WILSON Ruth Sperling Wilson, born November 12, 1934 passed away Sunday, May 31, 2020 at Brookdale Assisted Living in Shelby, NC. She was preceded in death by her parents, Yates and Essie Spangler Sperling, her broth- er, Glenn Sperling (Ruby) and her sisters, Mabel Sperling Jones (Dr. Robert) and Faye Sperling Spake (Bobby). She is survived by her husband of 62 years, Jimmy Wilson of Shelby and son, Dr. James Sperling Wilson, of Shelby. She is also survived by her granddaughters, Erin Lee Wilson, of Chapel Hill, NC and Laura Kathryn Wilson, of Hillsborough, NC and her tion of friends and viewing was held on Monday, June 1, 2020, at Shoal Creek Baptist Church from 12:00 Noon until 2:00 PM. Burial took place at Shoal Creek Baptist Church Cemetery. The ser- vice was live-streamed on Facebook. HAZEL AYLENE BRIDGES DAVIS Hazel Aylene Bridges Davis, age 96, died Sunday, May 31, 2020, at Cleveland Pines in Shelby. Born in Polk County on September 7, 1923 she was the daughter of the late Laxton D. Bridges and Nettie Wilburn Davis. She was the oldest member of Mt. Olivet Baptist Church. Aylene loved painting and sharing her works with oth- ers, and would often paint the landscapes of Carolina Beaches and Mountains from photos the family would take during their visits. One of her favorite activities was shopping. Above all she cherished her family and loved them all deeply. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Edgar Davis, two sisters Evelyn Bridges and Mary Francis Bridges, as well as one son, Milton Davis and one grand- son, William Davis. Aylene is survived by three grandchildren, Shanna Carpenter and husband Danny, Janie Miller and hus- band John, and David Davis all of Ellenboro, granddaugh- ter-in-law, Barbie Davis of Mooresboro, as well as nine great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren. Funeral Service was held 2:00 pm, Wednesday, June 3, 2020 at Mt. Olivet Baptist Church with Rev. Cody Allen officiating, burial followed in the church cemetery. FAYE CHILDERS McSWAIN Shelby - Mrs. Faye Childers McSwain, 80, passed away on Monday, June 1, 2020 at Carolina Care Health & Rehabilitation Center in Cherryville. Faye was born on November 22, 1939 in Gaston County, NC a daugh- ter of the late Albert Childers and Stella Sawyer Childers. She was a 1958 graduate of Ashley High School in Gastonia and was retired from Fasco in Shelby. Faye grandson, James Sperling Wilson, Jr., of Chapel Hill, NC and her daughter-in-law, Lori Wilkins Wilson, of Belmont, NC. Also, surviving are her nieces, Jane Sperling Young and Nancy Sperling Parrish of Raleigh, NC and Pam Spake Williams of Shelby, and her nephews, Dan Spake and Dr. Steve Jones of Shelby and two sister-in-laws, Margaret Spangler Wilson, of Shelby and Beth Wilson McKee of Charlotte, NC. Ruth was a graduate of Waco High School. She received her Bachelor of Arts degree from Meredith College in Raleigh, a Master of Arts degree from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, and the Educational Specialist degree from Western Carolina University. Her career reflected her commitment to education. During her early career, she taught for eleven years in Forest City, NC and Graham Elementary in Shelby, NC. She was the first teacher in NC for students with learning disabilities and taught in that area for ten years. She then served for twenty-two years as the Director of Special Services for the Shelby City Schools. Her responsibilities included directing programs for both the gifted students and students with special needs. Her work in education spanned forty-three years. Ruth's involvement in the community included serv- ing on the Cleveland County Mental Health Board and the Cleveland Vocational Industries Board. She was also a member of the North Carolina Association of Educators and the National Educational Association. As a member of First Baptist Church, for many years she was pianist for the Beginners Choir. She also assisted for many years as pianist for pre- school and first grade Sunday School classes. She was a member of the Women's Missionary Society. She was also a member of the Mary C. Robertson Bible Study group. She served for many years with the church's Extention Department, visiting regularly with home-bound members. She also served on various committees in the church. Her commitment to her church and community was matched by her devotion to her family, especially her only child, "Jim-Jim." There was a graveside ser- vice at 2pm on Friday June 5 at Elizabeth Baptist Church cemetery. The family is very grateful for the wonderful care Ruth received at Brookdale Assisted Living. She loved giving the entire staff many hugs!
