Born in Cleveland County, on February 2, 1969, he was the son of the late Dorothy Merlin Meade. Survivors include his wife of 13 years, Mary Elizabeth Mitchem Edwards; three daughters, Lacey Edwards, Jessica Edwards and Hanna Edwards all of Lawndale; five step children, Alysha Parlier of Hickory, Cherl Price of Granite Falls, Eddie Mitchem of Granite Falls, Rachael Mitchem of Hickory and Matthew Mitchem of Granite Falls; grandchildren, Jaylen, Layee, Iris, Patrick, Jacob and Abigail; two brothers, David Edwards and Danny Edwards both of Shelby; his father, Manuel Fredell and wife, Marjorie; a brother, Ray Fredell of Hickory and sister, Teressa McCarter of Lincolnton. Due to COVID-19 restric- tions social distancing, mask will be required while attend- ing services. The family will receive friends on Monday, June 1, 2020, at 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm, at Elliott Memorial Baptist Church. The Funeral Service was held 2:00 PM on Monday, June 1, 2020 at Elliott Memorial Baptist Church, Lawndale with the Rev. Homer Tessneer officiating. DOUGLAS "DOUG" DAVIS Shelby: Douglas "Doug" Davis, 68, died Friday, May 29, 2020, at Hospice at Wendover. A native of Cleveland County, he was the son of Ralph Davis Butch served proudly in the United States Airforce. He enjoyed traveling, fishing, and spending time with his family and friends. Butch especially enjoyed watching his grandchildren participate in soap box derby racing. Funeral services were held at 11:00 am Tuesday at Cleveland Funeral Services Chapel. Burial followed at Cleveland Memorial Park. A visitation was held one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. CORA AURELIA-ANN "CORRIE" BRIDGES Cora Aurelia-Ann "Corrie" Bridges, 5, of Kings Mountain, NC, passed away on May 27, 2020 at Levine's Children's Hospital in Charlotte, NC. She was born in Rock Hill, SC on December 10, 2014. Corrie was a remarkable little girl who was wise beyond her tender years. Her creativity, curiosity and grasp of her own spirituality evoked an inspira- tional example for all. Corrie's awareness of the world around her and her compassion for people was unmatched. She possessed an ability to com- municate with people. Corrie was an independent thinker and always full of ideas who enjoyed sharing those ideas with her friends and fam- ily. She was keenly aware of people's challenges, whether physical or mental and was concerned with everyone being treated as equals. Corrie was inspired to help others because her brother, Charles, is diagnosed with autism. She loved her brother Charles with all her heart and did not mind standing up for him whenever the need arose. She exem- plified the meaning of her "brother's defender and help- er." Her understanding of the world demonstrated wisdom beyond her years. Always a helpmate, Corrie loved help- ing her Mom in the kitchen, and her Dad outdoors and her brother with anything he needed. She enjoyed telling stories, listening to Christian music and singing her favorite song, "Happy Birthday Jesus." Corrie loved Frozen, sang every song, and owned almost every item from the franchise. She was a loving little girl who loved the Lord and her family with all her heart. Her mommy wrote, "Corrie, you are so beautiful, the sun and moon would envy you, if they could envy." Left to cherish her memo- ries: Parents: John "Eddie" Bridges and Rebecca "Becca" Dickinson Bridges; Brother: Charles Haywood Owen Bridges; Maternal ROLAND CROMWELL BLANTON Roland Cromwell Blanton, 95, died in his home on May 30, 2020. A native of Shelby, he was born to Eura and Moseline Beam Blanton on September 15,1924. He was the loving husband of Mary Sue Dixon Blanton for 71 years. He was preced- ed in death by his parents, 2 brothers, Clay and Bill Blanton and sisters, Frances Bettis and Dorothy Vance. He is survived by his wife Mary Sue, one son, Kenneth Blanton (Leslie) of Wilmington and three daugh- ters, Kathi Fletcher (Leonard) of Shelby, Mary Beth Mauney of Shelby, and Carolyn McDonald (Shannon) of Conover; grandchildren: Thomas Fletcher (Adrienne), Jason Mauney (Ashley), Brian Fletcher (Megan), Alyse Owoc (Michael), Alex Blanton, Meredith Blanton, Emily McDonald, Kimberly McDonald, and Mary Kathryn Fletcher. He has 5 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by 3 sisters, Jeanette Ellis, Edris Melton (Arvin), and Margaret Greene (Barry), and one brother, Scott Blanton (Carol). He was a devoted Christian who loved his family. He was a life-long mem- ber of Ross Grove Baptist Church where he served on the deacon board and was given the honor of Deacon Emeritus. He loved garden- ing, fishing, and puzzles. He retired from J.P. Stevens and Doran Mill. A graveside service was held at Ross Grove Baptist Church cemetery on Monday, June 1 at 2:00 pm, officiated by Reverend Marcus McGill. Lawrence Dewey "Butch" Skidmore Jr., age 80 of Mooresboro, NC, passed away Friday, May 29, 2020 at Fair Haven in Forest City. He is survived by his chil- dren, Lawrence Dewey Skidmore III of Forest City, NC, Andrea Skidmore Poole and husband Jay of Forest City, NC, Anthony Skidmore of Forest City, NC, and Jonathan Skidmore of Forest City, NC, five grandchildren, Keaton Poole, Jacob Poole, Jacalyn Poole, Alexandra Poole, Jessica Windle, and Zane Skidmore, a sister, Patricia Gayle Smith and husband Jerry of Sharpsburg, GA, and two nephews, Chris Smith of Atlanta, GA, and David Smith of Kings Mountain, NC. Born November 5, 1939 in Mecklenburg County, Butch was the son of the late Lawrence Dewey Skidmore Sr. and Sadie Farrington Skidmore and was preceded in death by a sister, Shirley Skidmore. ADAM TYLER ROGERS Adam Tyler Rogers, age 23, of Kings Mountain, passed away Thursday, May 28, 2020. Born April 7, 1997 in Mecklenburg County, he was the son of Amelia "Amy" Rogers who resides in Kings Mountain and the late Mark Patrick Rogers. Adam enjoyed listening to music, playing video games, hanging out with his friends. He was an avid skate boarder, loved his fam- ily especially his mom. Adam will truly be missed by all that knew him. Adam was preceded in death by a parental grand- mother Genevieve Rogers. In addition to his mother, those left to cherish his memo- ry include a son, Zayden Jace Rogers; his maternal grand- parents, Jerald and Lynn McKinney of Kings Mountain, numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. Born in Greene County, TN, she was the daughter of the late JD and Pauline Knipp. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by Joseph Rivers Smith, husband of 45 years, and brother Jimmie Knipp. Nancy was an active member of St. Matthews Lutheran Church in Kings Mountain where she had served as the President of the Church Council and director of St. Matthews Preschool. She had been active in book clubs, garden clubs, and bridge clubs. She was a loving mother, grand- mother, and friend and will be missed by all who knew her. Survivors: 1 son: J.
