The cruel unwarranted death of an innocent man and the destruction and violence that followed should sicken each of us to the core of our being. I know that this may sound like "pie in the sky" talk, but why can't we start the conversation with God? Every time a tragedy like this happens, we take the debate away from the real root of the problem. For too long this nation has turned its back on God and His Word. The Holy Scripture teaches us that God is love. The two greatest commandments are to love the Lord our God with all our heart, soul, and mind and to love our neighbor as ourselves. Love does not see the color of a man's skin. It does not think evil, nor does it seek to bring intentional harm on others. Through the lens of God's love, we see each person as a special creation of God. It was the love of God that motivated Jesus Christ, the Son of God, to die on a cross. He paid the price for the sins of the whole world which includes every race and color. As a nation we need to pray and turn back to a right relationship with God. God's grace and forgiveness will come as we repent of our backsliding. We will never fi nd the answer to our cultural woes in more government mandates or programs. The only lasting remedy for our society is a healthy dose of God's love.
