Entertainment Now | June 6 - 12, 2020 By Rachel Jones TV Media Don't you dare: Don't even think about missing the premiere of ABC's new game show, "Don't," on Thursday, June 11. Hosted by Adam Scott ("Big Little Lies"), the show pits family against family in a series of chal- lenges. Developed by Banijay Stu- dios North America, the series was snagged by the major network quickly and hailed as the next big family-friendly game show to watch. Family members enter in teams of four, accepting challenges that push them to their physical and mental limits. For each round, the contestants must complete a task without doing something. For ex- ample, they might be given in- structions like "don't scream," "don't slip" or "don't open your eyes." The theory behind the show is that it can be torturous to avoid doing something when you're explicitly told not to, as your mind will automatically focus on the forbidden thing. Besides, nobody likes being told what not to do. But the prize is well worth it, as each family has a chance to take home up to $100,000 in priz- es. Who could think up something so devious? Ryan Reynolds ("Deadpool 2," 2018), of course! The megastar is the mastermind and executive producer behind "Don't." He even took to Twitter to joke that the game show is part of his secret plot to bring back his canceled ABC sitcom from the 1990s, "Two Guys, a Girl and a Pizza Place." With Reynolds at the helm, it's no surprise the show is expected to be a hit. His witty one-liners and portrayal of Marvel's Deadpool have made him a fan favorite, and the success of his 2019 film "Pokémon Detective Pikachu" has cemented him in the world of family-friendly entertainment. Stars in disguise: Nickelodeon is flying to the rescue of bored chil- dren everywhere with its new show "Game Face." The series premieres Saturday, June 13, on the kids' network, and due to on- going pandemic procedures, the show is being produced virtually, proving the classic network is up to the task of tackling new and in- teresting challenges. And the unique format might turn out to be good for its ratings. Nickelodeon has found that, while all of its numbers are up with kids home from school full time, its YouTube channel has made a sur- prising jump in viewership. The network's senior vice-presi- dent of digital studios, Ashley Ka- plan, is the "Game Face" show- runner, and she's joined by Paul J. Medford and Luke Wahl, both Nickelodeon vice-presidents, so clearly, the show's development is in good hands. "Game Face" is a game show centered around guessing which celebrities are popping in to visit. A panel gets funny and interesting clues about their surprise guests' identities. The catch? The celebri- ties are covered with animated mask filters and their voices are changed. The idea of unveiling ce- lebs is giving us the same kind of vibes we get from the hit Fox show "The Masked Singer" — and that's a good thing. Swiss family designers: Meet a beautiful family on a beautiful is- land, but no one's been ship- wrecked this time. The Baeumler family packed up everything they owned, including their four kids, and moved from their suburban life in Oakville, Ontario, Canada, to South Andros Island in the Ba- hamas. HGTV follows their story in "Renovation Island," premiering Sunday, June 7. When the Baeumler's stepped in, the hotel had been sitting in a stale market for a decade. But this isn't your average hotel remodel, the couple wants to pay homage to the hotel's origins and the is- land on which they found it, so the project will include a lot of careful restoration. And the family is very environmentally conscious, part- nering with the Reef Rescue Net- work to make sure their hotel sup- ports and protects the beautiful ocean that surrounds it. While they are professionals, contractor Bryan Baeumler and de - sign expert Sarah Baeumler (both of whom are featured in "House of Bryan") are facing a pretty tight timeline. They have six months to turn a crumbling, mid-century re- sort into a traveler's paradise in time for the tourist season. When completed, their hotel will have a restaurant and bar, clubhouse, pool, spa, 18 rooms and 22 villas on the ocean. Can they do it? SATURDAY 9:20 A.M.
