Guest Registry is available at www.cecilmburtonfuneral- home.com NAOMI RUTH JONES BECKUM Naomi Ruth Jones Beckum, age 93, of Roy Eaker Road, passed away Thursday May 21, 2020 at home. She was born January 19, 1927, in Rogersville, TN to the late Harrison and Hattie Cope Jones. Ruth was a member of Shady Grove Baptist Church. A few of her hobbies included sewing, gardening, and working in her yard. She also enjoyed being called "Sunshine." She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles V. Beckum; sib- lings, Ford, Willard, Blevins, Hazel, Looney, Imagine, and Liza; niece, Robin Daughtry. Survivors include her two sons, Mike Beckum (Kay) of Lakeland Fla. and Morty Beckum of Cherryville, sisters, Jeanette Block, and Ruby Shanks; grand- children, Mendy Harrison (Robert), Leslie Johnson (Luke), Michelle Redgrave (Charlie), Michael Anderson, Melissa Beckum; great- grandchildren, Bryson, Bradley, Anursha, Lauren, Gabriel, Christopher, Aiden, and Parker; niece, Mary Lee Bowman; and her beloved cat, Missy. A private funeral service was held. Interment followed in the Shady Grove Baptist Church Cemetery. EDWIN GLENN HOMESLEY Cherryville – Mr. Edwin Glenn Homesley, 55, passed away on Sunday, May 24, 2020 at Atrium Health in Lincolnton. Edwin was born in Cleveland County, NC on April 19, 1965 a son of the Sonny Homesley and Jeanne Bridges Homesley. He was employed by he was preceded in death by his wife of 29 years, Barbara Stafford Brittain; a daughter, Crystal Dawn Brittain and a step-son, Glenn Watkins. Survivors include his children, Debra Nalley of Fallston, Carolyn Moses and husband, David of Casar, Charlotte Bridges of Shelby, Paul Brittain and Lisa Jones of Kings Mountain, Steven Brittain of Surfside Beach, SC, Dana Ledford and hus- band, Sonny of Cherryville and Tina Brittain and wife, April-Lynn Brittain of North Brookfield, Mass.; step chil- dren, Ronnie Watkins and wife, Laura of Mooresboro, Jimmy Watkins and wife, Allison of Mooresboro and Dale Watkins of Shelby; two sisters, Donita Brittain of Lawndale and Juanita Rice and husband Paul of Bessemer City; 16 grand- children and numerous great-grandchildren. Shorty lay in state from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM, Wednesday at Stamey- Tysinger Funeral Home. A Graveside Service was held on Thursday, May 28, 2020 at 1:00 pm at Plainsview Baptist Church with Dr. Ernest Speagle offi- ciating. ANN HARRIS RECTOR ROBINSON Ann Harris Rector Robinson, age 86, died Friday, May 22, 2020 at her home. Born in Morristown Tennessee, she was the daughter of the late William Alexander and Agnes Loretta Holtsinger Rector. Ann was an active member of Aldersgate United Methodist Church. She graduated from the University of Tennessee with a degree in education, while there she joined Alpha Delta Pi Sorority. Ann was an active member of the Dover YMCA and the Ruby C. Hunt YMCA. She enjoyed swimming, gardening, read- ing and playing golf. Her favorite activity was cooking and baking for her grand- children as well as spending time with them at the pool and hiking along the river. In addition to her parents, Ann is preceded in death by two sisters, Nancy Rary and Linda Rector. Ann is survived by her husband of 63 years, Jackie "Jack" Robinson; a son, Jim Robinson and wife Joy of Shelby; a daughter, Pat Birchfield and husband Scott of Greensboro; four grand- children, Will Birchfield, Jonathan Robinson and wife Ansley, Julia Robinson, BARBARA ANN "COOKIE" MARTIN LOVELACE Blacksburg -- Barbara Ann "Cookie" Martin Lovelace, 75, of 1000 York Rd, passed away Sunday, May 24th, 2020, at her home. Born in Blacksburg, she was the wife of Kenneth Lovelace and the daugh- ter of the late Ben Miller Martin and Artie Estelle Martin O'Keefe. After retiring from textiles, Cookie worked for years as a custodian at Blacksburg Elementary School. Surviving Mrs. Lovelace are a son, Randy Lynn Hardin, of Gaffney; a daughter, Donna Marie Scoggins and husband, Dennis Jr., of Blacksburg; a brother, Donald Martin, of Blacksburg; a sister, Lottie Blanton, of Blacksburg; five grandchildren, Angie Sherbert, Billy Pennington, Calie Scoggins Brown, Scottie Pennington, and Derek Scoggins; ten great- grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Lovelace was preceded in death by a son, Ricky Hardin, and a daughter, Sheila Pennington. The family received friends on Wednesday, May 27th, 2020, from 2:00 pm - 3:00 pm at Gordon Mortuary. A funeral service immediately followed. FLOYD "SHORTY" CARROLL BRITTAIN Floyd "Shorty" Carroll Brittain, 80, of Bessemer City, passed away on Saturday, May 23, 2020 at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte. Born in Cleveland County on September 2, 1939, he was the son of the late Sloan Marcus Brittain and Georgia Ellen Costner Brittain. He retired from Robinson Construction and was a member of Plainsview Baptist Church. He enjoyed making music and playing his banjo with the County Line Bluegrass Band. Shorty loved to be on the go. Glen Donald "Don" Bright Jr., age 68, died Thursday, May 21, 2020 at Atrium Health-Cleveland. Born in Cleveland County on December 3, 1951 he was the son of the late Glen Donald Bright Sr. and Elissa McKee Bright. Don was a standout baseball player for Shelby High who went to play with Western Carolina before being drafted to play Major League Baseball as a pitcher with the Texas Rangers. He returned to Shelby and worked for Duke Energy, Liberty Insurance, Western-Southern Life Insurance, Doran Mill Company, and finally retired from Copeland Corporation. In retirement he enjoyed golf, and participated in many tournaments. Of Don's accomplishments in life, his children and grandchildren were his proudest. Don is survived by one son Hasson Bright and fiance Kimberly Clark, one daugh- ter Heather Sadler and hus- band Matthew, all of Shelby, one brother, Mike Bright and wife Jill of Charleston, SC, eight grandchildren; Kaleb, Olive, Sam, Will, Jackson, Isabella, Remi, and Iliana as well as one niece, Ariel Lesmerises, and three neph- ews Ashby Ware, Justin Bright and Conner Bright and his former wife Helen Patterson. Memorial service was held 2:00 pm Friday, May 29, 2020 at Landmark Baptist Church with Rev. Allen Davis officiating. He lay in state at the church from 1:00 pm until 2:00 pm. He was also a member and Grand Prelate of the Cherryville Knights of the Pythias, former mem- ber of Cherryville Masonic Lodge, former member of Oasis Shriners, former member and past president of Cherryville Shrine Club. In addition to his par- ents survivors include his wife of 17 years, Amanda White Homesley of the home; a daughter, Chelsea Champion of Cherryville; a brother, Alan Homesley of Kings Mountain and three grandchildren, Aiyana, Joey and Drake. A family memorial service was held on Friday, May 29, 2020 at First Presbyterian Church in Cherryville with Dr. Bill Lowe officiating. A public service will be held at a later date. VIRGINIA "NANNY" LEE BENFIELD BREWER Virginia "Nanny" Lee Benfield Brewer, age 87, moved to Heaven, Monday, May 25, 2020 at her home. Born in Avery County on October 14, 1932, she was the daughter of the late Waites Clinton and Rachel Ula Deaton Benfield. Virginia was a partner of Hope Community Church. She was a giving and car- ing person. She earned her CNA certification so that she could care for the elderly. Virginia was a devoted wife and loving mother, grand- mother, and great grand- mother. Virginia enjoyed reading, watching birds and traveling. In addition to her parents, Virginia is preced- ed in death by her hus- band of 32 years, Charles "Ed" Brewer, Sr.; a great grandchild, Bryce Alexander Barbee; and five brothers. Virginia is survived by her children, Valencia Whitaker of Mooresville, Johnny Brown Sr, and wife Martha, Charles Brewer Jr. and wife Sandy, Vanessa Lail and husband Randy, and Pam Allen and husband Sandy all of Shelby; seven grand- children, John Brown Jr. and wife Angela, Cindy Lyman and husband Jerry, Skip 38105. FAYE CARPENTER WHITNEY Kings Mountain, Mrs. Faye Carpenter Whitney, 87, of the Mary's Grove Community, passed away on Monday, May 25, 2020 at White Oak Manor in Shelby. Mrs. Whitney was born on October 21, 1932 in Cleveland County, NC daughter of the late John Franklin Carpenter and Verda Beattie Carpenter. She was retired after 34 years of service as an accounting assistant with Duke Power in Charlotte. Mrs. Whitney was a member of Mary's Grove United Methodist Church in Kings Mountain where she was active with the United Methodist Women. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, William "Bill" Whitney and two broth- ers, Keith Carpenter and J.P. Carpenter. Survivors include niec- es and nephews, Donna Haskett and husband Tim of Kings Mountain; Steve Carpenter and wife Terri of Shelby; Daniel Carpenter and wife Jennifer of Indiana; Steven Carpenter, Kimberly C.
