That question largely depends on the na- ture of the coronavirus outbreak and whether a second wave will follow, or whether the wave currently ongoing will sufficiently wane. But regardless of the uncertain future, and the grief at the loss of a senior year and all its sa- cred milestones, Lennon counts himself as lucky. "I was really lucky to be at Cypress," he said. "I know it can be tough for people in the LGBT community at some of the bigger schools. But here there was such great staff and really good teachers who are eager to learn more about how they can better support their students." At some schools in 2020, it can still be dif- ficult, even dangerous, to come out as gay, but while Lennon had to summon the courage to come out, the students and teachers gave him the support required to make his high school experience rich and rewarding.
