4 • May 31 - June 6, 2020 • Brainerd Dispatch By Jessica Gosse TV Media WHAT'S ON NETFLIX: "Fuller House" Season 5 Part 2 Back in 2016, '90s kids got a wave of nostalgia when Netflix premiered "Fuller House," a spinoff of the early 1990s sitcom "Full House," which saw most of the original cast mem- bers reprising their roles. Now, the series is set to come to a close when the final episodes of Season 5 launch on Tuesday, June 2, on Netflix. The series is set 20 years after the finale of "Full House" and follows a now adult D.J. Tanner-Fuller (Candace Cameron-Bure, "Make It or Break It") as she faces the same situation her father faced: she's recently widowed and raising three children. Luckily, like her father before her, she has help: her sister Stephanie (Jodie Sweetin, "Hollywood Darlings") and her lifelong best friend, Kimmy (Andrea Barber, "Days of Our Lives"). Over the last five years, they've been through many ups and downs and have been joined by many friends and family members, like Joey (Dave Coulier, "Out of Control"), Jesse (John Sta- mos, "ER") and, of course, Danny (Bob Saget, "Entourage," 2015). You can catch up on the first nine epi- sodes of the fifth and final season of this heartwarming spinoff just in time for the debut of the final episodes. "That '70s Show" Join the gang as they hang out in the Formans' basement in Point Place, Wisconsin, in the late 1970s in this sitcom. You can watch all eight seasons now on Netflix. Eric Forman (Topher Grace, "Spider-Man," 2002), Donna Pinciotti (Laura Prepon, "Or- ange Is the New Black"), Steven Hyde (Danny Masterson, "The Ranch"), Michael Kelso (Ashton Kutcher, "Two and a Half Men"), Jackie Burkhart (Mila Kunis, "Bad Moms," 2016) and Fez (Wilmer Valderrama, "NCIS") navigate the ups and downs of life while getting into all sorts of she- nanigans. Enjoy every moment of Eric and Donna navigating their transi- tion from friends to lovers, Jackie's on-again, off-again relationship with Kelso, Hyde's government conspiracy theories and Fez's hilarious misun- derstandings of American culture — this series is filled with lots of heart as well as humor. Capitalizing on the tropes of the '70s, the series follows the group of friends as they spend a good portion of their time hanging out in Eric's basement in a cloud of smoke discussing everything from se- rious topics to the possibility of a car that runs on water. Though it lasted eight seasons, the series actually begins in 1976 and ends at exactly 11:59 on New Year's Eve 1979. WHAT'S ON APPLE TV+: "Dickinson" Hailee Steinfeld ("Pitch Perfect 3," 2017) stars as the 19th-century literary icon Emily Dickinson in this biographical drama, and you can watch the first season now on Apple TV+. While the series is a fictionalized version of her life, it does stay true to many of the known facts about the author, from her years attending Am- herst Academy to her rebellious per- sonality. In this first season, we see Dickinson as she begins trying to get her poetry published and getting an education, despite the expectation that she marry and start a family. Sea- son 2 is in the works and will delve into her relationship with fame and the themes of her work, particularly the theme of death. The well-known American rapper Wiz Khalifa is set to join the cast in Season 2 as a human personification of Death, and Stein- feld has said that this character "is a major element in this show." "Dear ..." Fan mail is becoming a thing of the past now, as most celebrities are on social media and are simply a tweet or a DM away (though few are likely to respond). But, for some celebrities, fan mail is rolling in. On Friday, June 5, Apple TV+ approaches celebrity profiles in a new way with the premiere of this docuseries that uses letters written to iconic figures to create biographies. The 10-episode series features all sorts of personalities, from journalist Gloria Steinem and director Spike Lee to music legend Stevie Wonder, Broadway star Lin-Manuel Miranda and even Sesame Street's Big Bird. Take a look at the lives of these iconic personalities (and more) through the eyes of those whose lives have been impacted by their work when the poignant docuseries "Dear ..." premieres on Apple TV+. WHAT'S ON HULU: "The Golden Girls" Available now on Hulu, this classic series follows Rose (Betty White, "Hot in Cleveland"), Blanche (Rue McClanahan, "Safe Harbor"), Doro- thy (Bea Arthur, "Maude") and her mother, Sophia (Estelle Getty, "Emp- ty Nest"), at a turning point in their lives. Each of them has faced difficult circumstances that lead to them choosing to live together — Rose and Blanche's respective husbands died, Dorothy got a divorce after her husband left her for a younger woman, and Sophia's retirement home burned down. "Maxxx" O-T Fagbenle ("The Handmaid's Tale") takes the lead as the washed-up former boy band star Maxxx in this British comedy series premiering Tuesday, June 2, on Hulu. When he is dumped by his supermodel girlfriend, Jourdan (Jourdan Dunn, "Zoolander 2," 2016), Maxx decides it's time to make a comeback and sets out to launch a solo music career. With the help of his cousin, Rose (Helen Monks, "Upstart Crow"), and the interesting combination of his former manager, Don (Christopher Meloni, "Law & Order: Special Victims Unit"), and new manager, Tamzin (Pippa Bennett-Warner, "Harlots"), Maxx attempts to prove to the world and himself that he isn't a loser.
