M a y b e y o u p r a y e d , but your circumstances got worse. You are not alone; I have felt that way occasionally as well as many others. Church prayer gatherings are typically the lowest attended service. Some have stated that they feel ill- equipped or uncomfortable praying in a corporate setting. Others have said that they don't believe their prayers will be answered, so why try? The Bible addresses why prayers sometimes are not answered. HINDRANCES TO ANSWERED PRAYER: Cherishing Sin & Being Un- repentant "If I had cherished iniquity in my heart, the Lord would not have listened." - Psalm 66:18 Spiritual Warfare "Then he said, "don't be afraid, Daniel. Since the first day you began to pray for un- derstanding and to humble yourself before your God, your request has been heard in heaven… but for twenty-one days the spirit prince of the kingdom of Persia blocked my God are you listening? DANYALE PATTERSON way. Then Michael, one of the archangels, came to help me..." - Daniel 12:12-13 Unforgiveness "If you forgive others of the wrongs they have done to you, your Father in heaven will also forgive you. But if you do not forgive others, then your Father will not forgive the wrongs you have done." - Matthew 6:14-15 Unbelief "And he did not do many mighty works there, because of their unbelief." - Matthew 13:58 Wrong Motives "When you ask you do not receive, because you ask with wrong motives, that you may spend what you get on your pleasures." - James 4:3 The first step in praying is to believe that God exists and that He wants to hear and an- swer your prayer. After you have dealt with the prayer hin- drances, then be determined to stand upon God's word and trust Him. Since this is a journey of faith, sometimes you must pray more than once. Jesus gives a parable about being persistent to the point of annoyance in Luke 18:1-5. The parable is about a widow who kept coming to an unrighteous judge to ask for justice. In the beginning, he refused. Then he decided to grant her request because she wouldn't stop asking for help. The message that Jesus was teaching his disciples through this parable is to al- ways pray and never give up! In Luke 18:6-8, Jesus states, "Learn a lesson from this unjust judge. Even he ren- dered a just decision in the end. So, don't you think God will surely give justice to His chosen people who cry out to Him day and night? Will He keep putting them off? I tell you, He will grant justice to them quickly!" PRAY THIS PRAYER: "Father, of what impor- tance is humanity, that you should notice us? Yet, you in- vite all to seek your face and call upon your name. Thank you, Lord, for the opportunity to receive salvation, healing, guidance, protection, deliv- erance, and so much more through praying to you. We forgive those that have hurt us. Help us to persist in prayer and to trust you no matter what. In Jesus' name I pray - Amen." Danyale Patterson is an evangelist and member of Engage church. And he showed me a pure river of water of life, clear as crystal, proceeding from the throne of God and of the Lamb. In the middle of its street, and on either side of the river, was the tree of life, which bore twelve fruits, each tree yielding its fruit every month. The leaves of the tree were for the healing of the nations. And there shall be no more curse, but the throne of God and of the Lamb shall be in it, and His servants shall serve Him. They shall see His face, and His name shall be on their foreheads. There shall be no night there: They need no lamp nor light of the sun, for the Lord God gives them light. And they shall reign forever and ever. –Revelation 22:1-5
