This week I am going to feature some very good ideas for you to keep. I’m taking “What’s Cooking At Tanner’s Grove” cook- book off my shelf of “edi- bles” and share the efforts of the 160 year old Tanner’s Grove United Methodist Church Women’s Society! Let’s get started and go to the kitchen to make some real treats. This is the time of year, in fact, any time is a good time to have a BAR-B-QUE SAUCE rec- ipe. I like to make this in advance and keep a pint or quart on hand to use as a marinate. It’s handy and makes everything I mari- nate in it very tasty. Thanks to JANICE WAUGH for this good sauce. 1 cup tomato juice and 1/4 cup catsup or 1 can tomato soup 1 3/4 teaspoons salt 1/4 teaspoon pepper 1/2 teaspoon mustard 1/4 teaspoon chili pow- der 1 1/2 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce 1/4 cup vinegar 2 tablespoons sugar Mix all ingredients together in saucepan and bring to simmer. Simmer for a while until it reaches the consistency that you want. Tip: I make two kinds of this at our house. One batch is just like above. The other batch I make I add one to two tablespoons of hot sauce. So now I have regular BBQ sauce and the other I call Zippite-Do-Dah sauce. My family likes at least two tablespoons hot sauce. Get out your crock pots and you’ll love this easy recipe. Here is FAYE FLYNN’S great recipe for CROCK POT APPLE BUTTER! It’s so simple, so easy and so good! Peel and slice enough apples to fill your crock pot! 1/2 cup vinegar 3 cups white sugar 1 cup brown sugar 3 teaspoons cinnamon Just a pinch of ground cloves Fill your crock pot with as many sliced apples as possible. Remember, the apples will shrink as the cooking process starts. Add vinegar to the apples and cook on HIGH for eight hours. Then lower the heat to LOW for 10 hours. After a total of eighteen hours of cooking, add the white sugar, brown sugar, cin- namon and cloves. Let cook for four more hours on LOW, Put in sterilized jars and seal for later use. This recipe is my week- end recipe. I usually start it about 12 noon. The timing then works out fine for me. The next recipe is a great “going on vacation” treat! The recipe is a gift from ELAINE CLARK. 2 cups yogurt-covered pretzels 2 cups dried banana chips 1 cup chocolate-covered raisins 1 cup honey-roasted cashews or peanuts 1 cup snipped dried papaya (cut in small pieces), or dried apricots or pineapple In a 12 cup mixing bowl, stir together pretzels, banana chips, chocolate- covered raisins, cashews, and the dried papaya, apri- cots or pineapple until well mixed. Transfer to a 2 quart refrigerator pitcher. (Not the refrigerator!). Makes 7 cups and can be stored up to one month. Tip: I used pint zip lock bags and then it’s all ready to go. Also, you can now get the choco- late covered raisins in dark chocolate! Wow! There you have it! My kitchen didn’t even get too hot with these reci- pes! I guess that makes me a really “cool cook!” It’s so hot, maybe next week, I’ll just make ice cream! Meanwhile, get in the kitchen and show the love!
