LEADER OF THE PACK 5K & FUN RUN SUPPORTS CISRC Representatives from Leadership Rutherford and their 2010 Class Came together with mem- bers of the Board of Directors of Communities In Schools of Rutherford County on Thursday to present CISRC the proceeds from their very successful “First Annual Leader of the Pack 5K and Fun Run” held May 15th, 2010. Chief Jay Jackson of the Forest City Police Department presented the check for $3,170.71 on behalf of the Class. Jackson told the group, “We spent sev- eral months trying to determine what our project would be, but after hearing from Chris Fuller on the Back Pack Program at Spindale Elementary, we quickly felt this was to be the focus of our effort. The 5k and Fun run brought in the element of a healthy life style which is one of the basic beliefs of Communities In Schools.” Jackson went on to say, “We look forward to repeating the Leader of the Pack 5K and Fun Run each year with the support of the Leadership Rutherford Board and the program alumni.” Amy Revis, CISRC Site Coordinator for Spindale Elementary, began her day with her annual review and the welcome news her position had been funded for the coming year, thanks in part to this event. Amy has been the one to shepherd the prototype back pack program through its fi rst year in Rutherford County, starting with 12 children and ending with 46. Revis told us, “It has been a year of laughter and awe as we’ve seen the impact of the simplest things- a pop tart or a can of Vienna Sausages- make a difference for a child.” Charlotte Epley, Executive Director of CISRC, went on to say, “Because of Amy’s effort and the ground swell of support from our community partners, we look to expand the back pack and mentoring program. As we add school sites and coordinators we enable an increase of services to children throughout the county.” Both Epley and Fuller serve on the Leadership Rutherford Board and are passionate about Communities In Schools Rutherford County (CISRC). For information on or to contribute to CISRC go to www.RutherfordCIS.org or email Epley at execdir@RutherfordCIS.org or call 828-288-0228.
