Entertainment Now | May 9 - 15, 2020 By Rachel Jones TV Media A culinary world: Famed TV chef Gordon Ramsay ("Hell's Kitchen") is leaving behind his explosive persona for a little more culture. Season 2 of "Gor- don Ramsay: Uncharted" pre- mieres Sunday, May 10, on Nat- Geo, and Ramsay has traded in his apron for a canoe. He's step- ping away from his traditional restaurant space to explore the culinary scene around the world, seeking inspiration from new lands and ancient traditions. This isn't the first time we've seen a softer side of Ramsay, but it's clear that his more relaxed and inquisitive take on cooking is charming foodies everywhere. In- terestingly, Ramsay seems to be following in the footsteps of the late chef and travel writer, An- thony Bourdain ("Anthony Bour- dain: Parts Unknown"), who died in 2018. Bourdain's shows often sought out unique and interest- ing culinary gems from remote parts of the globe. Similarly, Ramsay has been learning high-elevation cooking in Peru, preparing seal with el- ders in Alaska and exploring in- gredients unique to the Hawaiian islands. Only six episodes long, the first season left us craving more, and it appears National Geographic isn't going to disap- point. Season 2 already features Ramsay in Tasmania, braving sharks and preparing sea urchin. One especially cool aspect of the show is that Ramsay tries to connect and cook with local ex- pert chefs in the hopes of soaking up their wisdom and learning the best of what each location has to offer. "Gordon Ramsay: Unchart- ed" is shaping up to be a fasci- nating adventure that can satisfy both your stomach and your soul. Check out the next season of NatGeo's series, "Gordon Ram- say: Uncharted," premiering Sun- day, May 10. You can't stop the beat: Nothing can stop "American Idol" from making its way into our hearts and homes — not even a global pandemic. Believe it or not, the show's next new ep- isode will air Sunday, May 10, on ABC. The show must go on ... but how? With only four episodes left in the season, fans have been wondering how they'll get their musical fix. The network's brightest minds have come together with a plan to have the entire show broad- cast from, well, all over. Each contestant has been sent all their own gear, including wardrobe, faster internet and lighting equip- ment. ABC has even teamed up with Apple to provide them with the latest iPhones for high-quali- ty recording. The contestants have a whole new set of challenges to conquer as they decide where to perform. Working with only tracks made by the show's band, there is noth- ing for these singers to hide be- hind now. Raw talent will have to shine through in these final epi- sodes, and they'll need to pull out all the stops to wow judges. The music industry has always been a competitive scene, and this is a whole new level. But any star who can jump these hurdles is one to watch out for. While the show is using Ryan Seacrest's ("Reality Check") home as the new "stage," the judges will be watching and con- necting from their homes, too, and ABC will make sure you get to see plenty of musical icons Katy Perry, Lionel Richie and Luke Bryan as the season races to- wards its finale. Yes, there will be a contestant crowned as the next American Idol this season! So make sure to tune in to these one-of-a-kind performances on ABC. Watch the next episode of "American Idol" on Sunday, May 10, on ABC. Work hard, play hard: Ja- meela Jamil ("The Good Place") returns to host Round 2 of this unique game show, and you can catch the season premiere of "The Misery Index" when it airs Thursday, May 16, on TBS. The premise of the series is just as its name implies: Two teams scramble to rank a list of embar- rassing (and funny) real-life oc- currences, assigning each a place on a scale from one to 100. The teams are made up of one non- celebrity participant, plus two members of The Tenderloins, a comedy troupe that fans may know from the series "Impracti- cal Jokers," which airs on truTV. This makes for a truly hilarious series — not only are the situa- tions themselves a cringey plea- sure, the teams' reactions will split your sides. At the start of each episode, contestants share one of their own horrifying true stories and are sub- sequently presented with a host of other mortifying tales. A panel of psychologists ranks each experi- ence according to what's known as "The Three Pillars of Misery," which takes into account physical pain, lasting psychological impact and emotional trauma. The teams then compete to see if they can ac- curately gauge where the events fall on the Misery Index. SATURDAY NOON (ESPN2) eSports (Live) (3:00) 6:00 P.M.
