Sumter St. • Shelby, NC www.cityofshelby.com/parks At the 11th annual Rodeo Polkville this past Friday and Saturday evenings everyone was in a festive mood and ready to enjoy all the excitement. The rodeo is held at Polkville Baptist Church’s Mintz Arena and features all the skills of bareback bronc riding, saddle bronc riding, calf roping, steer wrestling, team roping, barrel racing, and bull riding. The different competitions held everyone’s attention, especially the little cowboys and girls! One of the biggest crowd pleasers was rodeo clown Jerry Wayne Olson and his little pony “Scout”. “Scout” was very entertaining, fetching Jerry Wayne’s hat and sitting up while waving to the crowd. Over $1700 in proceeds raised at the event will go to benefi t missions and disaster relief. Without a doubt, Polkville Baptist Church’s “Rodeo Polkville” is one of the best family fun events in Cleveland County. – M. A. Andrews “Livin’ The Dream” In Shelby Holding her lucky #138 winning ticket, Joann Lutz stands next to her new Ford Ranger with Club President, Jack Weller. Goforth Hall at the Cleveland County Fairgrounds was the setting, this past Friday, for the Boys and Girls Club of Cleveland County’s annual fundraiser. 400 “Winners Choice” ticket holders were treated to a big din- ner at 6 p.m. prior to the beginning of the reverse raffl e at 7 p.m. This year the winner had the choice of a 2011 Ford Ranger or a 2011 Ford Focus from Keeter Ford in Shelby. Meanwhile, a live and silent auction took place. Finally, at 9:17 p.m. the fi nal and winning number , # 138 , was called. It belonged to Joann Lutz, who was ecstatic! She chose the Ford Ranger which she gave to her grandson, Trey. – M. A. Andrews Joe Lovelace and Stony Yearwood, of Trendsetters Salon, add some fi nishing touches to Crest student, Dillon Hamrick on the Tigi Rocka- holic-Bed Head “Livin’ the Dream” tour bus. The famous multi-million dollar bus spent Tuesday, June 15th from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Trendset- ters and was one of only four stops it made in North Carolina. To tour the Tigi bus in itself was awesome! With the likes of “Kiss” now back on tour, the rock community is once again big on cosmic make up. The bus was previously the tour bus for Rod Stewart, Def Leppard, Bryan Adams, Jimmy Buffet, Huey Lewis, Velvet Revolver, Third Eye Blind and Poison. For your next cosmic makeover be sure to visit Trendsetters. They are located at 1632 S. DeKalb St. in Shelby. –M. A.
