B-6 Church Wednesday, April 22, 2020 The Press-Dispatch SOMETHING NEWSWORTHY? Give us a call: 812-354-8500 Christian Church of Christ Church of God Independent Independent Lutheran Methodist Nazarene BRENTON CHAPEL CHURCH OF CHRIST 1194 E. CR 400 N. Prides Creek Road Petersburg Sunday morning Bible classes 10 a.m.; morning worship 10:30 a.m. and evening worship at 6 p.m. Tony Sims, Elder Ross Williams, Elder current suggested rules of assembly, we will remain in our homes on the Lord's Day. Stewardship "Stewardship includes how you make your posses- sions, how you use your pos- sessions, and to what you leave your possessions." Jesus said, "Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moth and rust do not destroy and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also" (Matthew 6:19 -22). Because He lives. John Manges, Minister FIRST CHRISTIAN CHURCH 1400 E. Main Street Petersburg 812-354-6775 Regular services: Sunday school 9:30 a.m. and worship service at 10 :30 a.m. We keep talking about a new normal. This week I want to encourage all of you, as I have my church, to spend less time dwelling on the fu- ture, but instead, rest into the promises of God, today. This week, instead of just thinking theoretically about the next couple of months do some of these things instead. First, enjoy today. Go for a walk, en- joy the flowers of spring, sit on the porch and enjoy God's creation. Those are just a few ways to enjoy today. When we think too much about tomorrow, our hope starts to dissipate. Secondly, do something fun, and make the most of this time. Don't just sit around and watch the news or listen to COVID-19 reports. Get a project done, paint that room, get some- thing done outside, or cre- ate something. It will be well worth it and satisfying. Final- ly, be social. I know we are told to social distance, but make phone calls, wave at your neighbors, send some cards or messages. Let peo- ple know that you are think- ing about them and missing them. It makes a world of dif- ference. Most importantly, let's remember that God is and has always been in control, and this is not outside of his grasp. Blessings to you this week. Recent service can be found using the following internet link: https://youtu. be/-y8KB1TFORE. "All these blessings will come upon you and overtake you if you pay attention to the voice of the Lord your God. You will be blessed in the city, and you will be blessed in the field" (Deuteronomy 28:2-3). This is such a beautiful promise. Our physical loca- tion doesn't matter as long as we are obedient to the Lord. As our relationship with God deepens, He gives us bless- ings even in the worst of times if we are paying atten- tion and looking for them. In fact, His Word says the bless- ings will overtake us, which tells me that they are all around me. To notice them, my perspective must be at- tuned to God and His Ways. The blessing may be a card from a friend or relative, or being able to spend quali- ty time with your spouse. These seemingly small ges- tures could make all the dif- ference in the life of someone you know, and being a bless- ing can bless you too. "Moreover Manasseh shed innocent blood very much, till he had filled Jeru- salem from one end to anoth- er; beside his sin wherewith he made Judah to sin, in do- ing that which was evil in the sight of the LORD." (II Kings 21:16) Read II Kings 21:12. Between Passover and Resurrection Sunday, some models put the US Corona- virus death toll very close to 3,000 deaths per day, which is roughly the number of abortions performed per day in America. Yet no bor- ders have ever been closed, businesses have never been boarded up, and few have ev- er mourned because these precious infants have had to die all alone, like so many COVID-19 patients. Last January, Governor Cuomo ordered the World Trade Tower to be lit up in pink to celebrate New York's new law permitting the legal murder of unborn children up to the day of birth. Now, with New York City, where 60,000 abortions occur annu- ally, as the epicenter of this global pandemic, the World Trade Tower stands unlit over desolate streets and shuttered stores. The spire of the Empire State Building is displaying a red and white spinning light, a beacon of warning that all is not well. Cuomo signed the infan- ticide bill into law with an expression of elation on his face. Today, God has wiped that smirk from his face. Let us pray that he and other pol- iticians who support these laws will repent before they find themselves in an even more grim reality. Read Ga- latians 6:7. Drug Problem I had a "drug" problem when I was a young person and teenager. I was "drug" to church on Sunday morning. I was "drug" to church on Sun- day night. I was "drug" to church on Wednesday night. I was "drug" to Sun- day school every week. I was "drug" to Vacation Bi- ble school. I was "drug" to the family altar to read the Bible and pray. I was al- so "drug" to the woodshed when I disobeyed my par- ents. Those "drug" are still in my veins, and they affect my behavior in everything I do and say, and think. They are stronger than cocaine, crack and hero- in. If our children had this "drug" problem, America would certainly be a better place. God Bless America. Jeff Pinney, Pastor PETERSBURG FIRST UNITED METHODIST CHURCH 801 East Walnut Petersburg 812-354-6658 47567fumc@gmail.com Making disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world Easter season is more than just an extended cel- ebration of the resurrec- tion of Jesus. In the early church, Lent was a season for new converts to learn about the faith and prepare for baptism on Easter Sun- day. The initial purpose of the 50 -day Easter season was to continue the faith formation of these new Christians. Today, this extended sea- son gives us time to rejoice and experience what it means when we say Christ is risen. It's the season when we remember our baptism and how, through this sacrament, we are in- corporated into Christ's mighty acts of salvation. As Easter people, we cele- brate and ponder the birth of the Church and gifts of the Spirit (Pentecost), and how we are to live as faith- ful disciples of Christ. God bless. "Teach us to number our days, that we may gain a heart of wisdom" (Psalm 90 :12). Our time on earth won't last forever. Yet we can manage it wisely, not by watching the clock, but by giving each day to God. As Moses said, "Teach us to number our days, that we may gain a heart of wis- dom" (Psalm 90 :12). Then, with God, we'll always be on time, now and forever. What's your pace in life? How could you spend more WHITE RIVER CHAPEL UMC 3555 W.
