"These businesses provide a vital part of our county's economic stabil- ity," says Bill Watson, president of the Cleveland County Chamber of Commerce. "Anything that affects them will affect the entire county." And while most of these small business- es have had to close their physical doors for now, many have found ways to continue offering goods and services to the public – sometimes in unusual ways. "Some local stores already had online options, while others have used this opportunity to create new virtual shopping experiences," says Watson. Watson encour- ages customers to search online for their favorite local store and to make a purchase or even buy a gift card to use later. "These kind of purchases can really help a small business during this time of quarantine," he says. Since meat can be hard to find in the local grocery stores, several Shelby restau- rants are now offering meat, poultry and cheeses for sale: • Ni Fen Bistro (704-481-8882) is offer- ing fresh chicken, beef, veal, pork, lamb chops, seafood and local chees- es. Customers can make an order Sunday-Thursday for next-day pickup. • J-Bird's Deli & Ales (704-406-9641) has deli meats and cheeses for sale by the pound. • Newgrass Brewing Company has Colfax Creek Farm pork available for $6.50 per pound. Area exercise studios are taking their services online in order to meet their cli- ents' needs. Uptown Yoga Loft (www.UptownYogaLoftShelby.com) is offering online yoga classes six days per week, while Uptown Studio is offering virtual Zumba on Mondays and Thursdays. Those interested in the virtual Zumba classes can call 704-600-7450. Class size is limited. Finally, the Academy of Performing Arts is offering a number of online dance classes. Search for "APA Shelby" on Facebook for more information. Other area businesses are teaming up to provide their goods and services. Southern Gem Nursery is now using the deck of Hannah's Coffee Shop to sell flowers and other items. And while area restau- rants have closed their dining areas, many are offering curbside or to-go orders, and some are also offer- ing delivery. Watson says the Chamber is encouraging local residents to support these restaurants as they work to stay open during this time. "In fact, the Chamber has initiated a 'Chamber To Go' program to benefit Chamber member food and beverage pro- viders," says Watson. "Any customer can simply take a photo at the restaurant, tag the restaurant, and post it to social media with the hashtag '#CCChambertogo,' and they will automatically be entered to win one of ten $25 gift cards that the Chamber will award."
