($500 Value) "I Am Not Forgotten" series Part 4 D o y o u know some- one that only calls you when t h e y n e e d s o m e t h i n g ? Your reaction can range from annoyance to avoidance of that person. Whichever response you choose, none of us enjoy that scenario. Another similar ex- ample is of a parent who has gotten older. Throughout their lives, they poured out their blood, sweat, and tears to give their child a decent life. How- ever, when the child becomes an adult, they never make time to visit, call, or even appreci- ate the sacrifices that the par- ent has made for them. The parent then feels hurt and saddened by the lack of love shown to them. In like manner, it seems we have we forgotten our Heavenly Father in our day to day living, except in times of crisis. This is primar- ily because of the many distractions in our world today, easy access to things that we need, and from living in a prosper- ous nation.. Through these things and more, many of us have put the eternal God on the backburner, or pushed him aside for temporary, transient desires. Throughout biblical times and presently, humanity has had a case of "spiritual am- nesia." An example of this is found in Judges 8:33-34: "As soon as Gideon died, the Isra- elites prostituted themselves by worshiping the images of Baal, making Baal-berith their god. They forgot the LORD their God, who had rescued them from all their enemies surrounding them;" What does God think about being forgotten? Moses admonishes the Israelites in Deuteronomy 8:11 & 14 to never forget God's command- ments, God's deliverance, and God's blessing: "Beware that in your plenty you do not forget the LORD your God and disobey his commands, regulations, and decrees that I am giving you today. Do not become proud at that time and forget the LORD your God, who rescued you from slavery in the land of Egypt." Ways to Remember God: • Wake up and thank God for the precious gift of life. • Start your day by reading and meditating on scripture. • Play praise & worship music in your car and home. • Talk to God throughout the day and listen for His still, small voice. • Honor God with a por- tion of your time, talents, and treasure. • Quickly repent of sin in your thoughts, words, and ac- tions. • Gather as a family to sing, pray, and study the bible. • Receive communion often. • Love God passionately with an obedient, devoted heart. • Share & discuss what God has done for you with others - especially your chil- dren and grandchildren. PRAY THIS PRAYER: "Lord, you are mighty and worthy of praise; no one can measure your greatness. Fa- ther forgive me for not always making you a priority. You deserve the number one po- sition in my life. I love you and I can't forget all that you have done for me. I am grate- ful, because I know that every good and perfect gift comes from you. I will continually give thanks to you with my whole heart; I will tell of all your wonderful deeds. Help me to be aware of your glori- ous presence. In Jesus name I pray. Amen."
