Born in Cleveland County, on March 24, 1945, he was the son of the late William Lawrence Blanton and Vangie Crotts Blanton. He was pre- viously employed with Kiser Chevrolet and retired from Cleveland County Schools. Mr. Blanton was a follower of Jesus Christ. He loved to carp and bass fish, bird hunt and was an avid Carolina Tarheels Fan. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Marty Wright Blanton and two brothers, Bob and Jack Blanton Survivors include a son, Rev. Steven Blanton and wife, Christen of Hendersonville; a daughter, Laura Scism and husband, Todd of Kings Mountain; three grandchil- dren, Justin Fite, Eli Blanton and Emory Blanton; great- grandchild, Dayson Fite; a brother, Wayne Blanton of Monroe and three sisters, Nadine Turner and Hazel Harmon and husband, Dale all of Kings Mountain and Betty Huffman of Connelly Springs. A private funeral service will he held at Stamey-Tysinger Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Steven Blanton offici- ating. Burial will follow in Oak Grove Baptist Church Cemetery. DEWEY GARLAND CARPENTER Dewey Garland Carpenter, age 91 of Shelby, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Tuesday, March 24, 2020. He is survived by his loving wife of 70 years, Mary Scruggs Carpenter of the home, his children, Eugene Carpenter of Shelby, NC, and Judy Cash and husband Jerry of Mooresboro, NC, two grand- children, Terri Cash Kimbrell and husband Danny Ray of Chesnee, SC, and Jerry Cash Jr. and wife Carmen of Chesnee, SC, six grandchil- dren, Daniel Kimbrell, Jacob Kimbrell, and Noah Kimbrell, Cayla Cash, Claire Cash, and J.D. Cash. Born May 10, 1928 in Cleveland County, Dewey was the son of the late Dewey and Loya Hawkins Carpenter and was preceded in death by a sister, Flora Carpenter. Dewey was a faithful mem- ber of Double Springs Baptist Church where he had served as a Deacon and Sunday School Teacher. He had worked and retired as a cus- todian from West Cleveland School. ANGELENA "BOOT" NICOLE ERVIN Angelena "Boot" Nicole Ervin, age 32 of Hilton Head, SC, previously of Shelby, NC, passed away Tuesday, March 24, 2020. Born June 24, 1987 in Cleveland County, Boot was the daughter of Debbie Cogdell Ervin and Harold Wayne Ervin Jr. Boot enjoyed singing, dancing, fishing, watching movies, and spending time with her family and friends, especially her children. JOHN HENRY MITCHELL John Henry Mitchell, age 79 of Shelby, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Tuesday, March 24, 2020. He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Josephine Williams Mitchell of the home, his children, Troy Poole (Jimmy), Kenneth Williams, Angeline Mitchell, Rodney Mitchell, and Henry Mitchell, a host of grandchildren and great grandchildren, a brother, David Mitchell (Lovie), and two sisters, Edna Mae Mitchell and Elizabeth Mitchell, and numer- ous nieces and nephews. Born November 8, 1940 in Cleveland Ohio, Henry was the son of the late Oscar Mitchell Sr. and Creola McKinney Mitchell, and was preceded in death by three children, Richard Mitchell, Adrian Baccus, and Howard Roberts, and his siblings, Oscar Mitchell Jr., Rufus Mitchell, Odell Mitchell, Bobby Mitchell, John Mitchell, and Carrie Mitchell. Henry was an outgoing person. He enjoyed walk- ing, cooking, fishing, bowling, and spending time with his family and friends. Born in Rutherford County, NC on December 25, 1939 , she was the daughter of the late Zebulon Whitener and Eva Etha Walker Whitener. She was retired from First National Bank and was a member of Polkville Baptist Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James Everett Powell; a son, James Powell; two brothers, John Whitener and Armond Whitener and two sisters, Maude Campbell and Darrell McCurry. Survivors include two sons, Neal Powell and wife, Dana of Belmont and Eric Powell and wife, Jamie of Shelby; a daughter, Lynn Kuehl and husband, Dan of Orange Park, Florida; two sisters, Goldie McSwain of Shelby and Nancy Melton of Forest City; seven grandchildren, Zach Powell, Brianna Powell, Blake Powell, Blaine Powell, Miranda Knox, Cody Eaton and Jeffrey Rappeport and three great- grandchildren, Ellison Knox, Myles Knox and Flash Eaton. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Willie Mae Champion Tesseneer; son, Richard Tesseneer; a daughter, Sandra Rae Tesseneer; a brother, Rufus "Buck" Tesseneer and two sisters, Essie White and Evelyn Morrison. Mrs. Harrelson was born on February 28, 1941 in Mecklenburg County a daugh- ter of the late Blaine Baker and Madge Depriest Baker. Mrs. Harrelson was a former Junior High School teacher. She was also very involved in their veterinary practices and land development. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her daughter, Holly Harrelson. Born in Buncombe County on August 5, 1936, she was the daughter of the late Clyde Henry and Ruth Annette Taylor Marlowe. Peggy was a member of Morning Star Baptist Church. She enjoyed working with children and was a teacher's assistant at the Daycare of First Baptist Church for 14 years. In addition to her par- ents she is preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Charles Searcy; two brothers and four sisters. Born in Cleveland County on July 13, 1935 he was the son of the late Wade Thomas McSwain and Evelyn Beam McSwain. He served in the National Guard and was a long time member of Double Shoals Baptist Church and a former deacon of Mulls Memorial Baptist Church. Mitchell worked at Baxter Corporation for more than 35 years until his retirement. In his retirement he was able to devote more time to one of his favored past times, gardening. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife Betty Drewery McSwain, two brothers, Bobby Gene McSwain, Joel Thomas McSwain and a spe- cial uncle, Jackson E. Beam. Mitchell is survived by two daughters, Angela McSwain Clark and husband, Scott of Shelby, Michelle Hoyle and husband Keith of Shelby; a sister, Annie Ruth Brackett and husband, Rev. Jim Brackett; one sister-in-law Rece McSwain of Gastonia; as well as three grandchil- dren, Kimberly and Jessica Clark and Landon Hoyle and two great-grandchildren; Isabella Fallas and Iliana Bright. Graveside Service will be held at 11:00AM on Saturday, March 28, 2020 at Cleveland Memorial Park with Rev. Jim Brackett and Rev. Brian Johnson officiat- ing.
