Christian Castañeda always
loved mathematics and phy-
sics. His love came first at the
University of Chicago Labora-
tory High School then the Uni-
versity of Illinois at Urbana-
Champaign where he earned
his bachelor's in Engineering
Mechanics. He still resides in
the Pilsen neighborhood of
Chicago where he grew up.
Castañeda has always been
a critical thinking problem sol-
ver. Upon graduating from co-
llege, he began to utilize his en-
gineering skills to ensure that
critical facilities, such as hos-
pitals and government organi-
zations, secured various means
of power in emergencies. He
programmed and designed
fuel filtration systems to ensure
backup generators were activa-
ted in cases of emergencies.
Castañeda works as a pro-
ject engineer at Alar Enginee-
ring Corporation, helping a
variety of clients across multi-
ple industries solve industrial
& environmental wastewater
problems. He has excelled in
programming complex sys-
tems as well as developing
and standardizing system pro-
grams.
In addition to his work in
the engineering field, Cas-
tañeda serves as secretary
of the Young Professional
Board (HYPB) for the His-
panic Association for Career
Enhancement, which provi-
des networking, professional
development and mentorship
resources to Latinos. As secre-
tary, he aims to help improve
the organization and efficien-
cy of the group. He is a strong
believer that education provi-
des the knowledge, skills, and
values needed to succeed.
Through his work with
HYPB, he hopes to strengthen
the resource services for La-
tino youth and guide them to
a successful career. Christian
Castañeda still resides in the
Pilsen neighborhood of Chica-
go where he grew up.
