Kristy Herrera was born in
Chicago after her parents emi-
grated from Mexico in the late
1970s. She was the first in her fa-
mily to graduate college and rose
through the ranks at McCalla Ra-
ymer Leibert Pierce, LLC where
she handles a wide range of real
estate litigation and mediation
throughout Illinois.
Herrera earned a bachelor's
degree in psychology from The
University of Illinois at Urbana-
Champaign where she minored
in International Studies and
Spanish and is a member of
Alpha Psi Lambda Co-Ed Latino
Fraternity. She earned her Juris
Doctor from DePaul Universi-
ty College of Law. While in law
school she studied abroad in
Beijing, China and Sydney, Aus-
tralia. She was admitted to the
Illinois Bar in 2013.
She is currently serving as
treasurer of The University of Illi-
nois Latina/o Alumni Associa-
tion and was a 2020 volunteer for
the Girl Scout Project Law Track.
Herrera founded and organized
an annual backpack giveaway in
Chicago's Belmont Cragin neigh-
borhood. In the past three years,
she has gifted more than 250 do-
nated backpacks full of school
supplies to families in need.
When Herrera isn't working
or donating her time, she enjoys
reading, traveling, and spending
time with her 11-month-old son,
Christian Emiliano, and 11-year-
old dog, Scarlett. She is close to
her family and attributes much
of her drive and success to her
parents.
