Aiming Outdoorsmen Toward Christ I do much of my work today on a computer. I’m thankful that I took a typ- ing class when I was a senior in high school. And no, the typewriter was not manual, for all of you smart-alecs. By the end of the year, I was typing an out- standing twenty-four words per minute. Now, I can already tell that some of you are wondering what the heck is a smart alec? And no doubt the same bunch has no clue what a typewriter is. If this is the case, I can only say I really feel old and since its time for my Geritol, I’ll just let you go online for defi nitions and descrip- tions. Yeah, I know…..What’s Geritol? I do remember my fi rst computer – a Commodore 64. And my fi rst laptop was a Tandy. I think it weighed about 64 pounds and was slower than my abil- ity to type. This of course was before Al Gore discovered the internet, so I spent my time on word processing and setting up databases. Soon my ability to type in- creased and now I can safely say I can type at least twenty-fi ve words per min- ute. You see... they changed the words. It has always seemed that when I fi nally “got it,” they decided what I “got” was outdated. And then there’s what’s “new and improved.” My hunting closet is full of new and improved things – most of which are just new and more expensive than the last item that was new and im- proved. Pretty soon someone will come up with the “new and unimprovable.” I’m hoping that will be my fi nal purchase. When I think about all of these chang- es, my mind goes in two directions. First of all, it moves toward the future and what it might hold when it comes to tech- nology. Will I be able to replace my car with a hovercraft and can I please just hand pick the ten television channels I want to watch and buy them, instead of having to buy 600 in order to get that same ten? Pleeeese. What my mind also goes to is the comfort in knowing there is an un- changeable, unmovable, and an unim- provable foundation that is solid. It is the truths found in the scriptures. And even though there will be new discoveries, the Lord will never change and neither will His plan for me or for you. When I picture this, I see an island that I can safely get on after I have ridden the waves of change at the end of each day.
