16A MANAGER / ADMINISTRATOR I major funding was in jeopardy. Kinard implemented structures on both the staff and operations front. With the changes, naturally some employees left, a few not voluntarily. But those who stayed showed they were ready for change. "It really took a lot of empathy to show them that I'm not just here as your boss but as a person that wants to see you grow in this field and also challenge you and help you reach the level I know you can reach," Kinard explained. "The staff that stayed were really receptive to the changes because it was something they wanted for a while." Dealing with community partners wasn't easy either. But with the help of WestCare Regional Vice President Amy Roukie and Nevada Area Director Kevin Morss, the three were able to work at mending relationships. "Those were rougher waters because we hadn't been transparent in our data reporting. We weren't showing them what they were paying for," Kinard added. While the site is doing better, Kinard sees plenty of room for improvement. The Community Triage Center is unique as it offers medically assisted detoxification services and both hospital and jail diversion programs. Kinard would like to increase the continuum of care at the center with added medical, mental health and substance abuse offerings so patients can continue with programs like outpatient coun- n college, Erin Kinard wanted to set the world on fire as a trial lawyer. But after finishing her bachelor's degree in criminal justice from Western New Mexico University, Kinard took a job as an administrative assistant at a mental health treatment program. With her eyes on saving for law school and charting her next move, she felt a pull to the mental health field. "I learned that the world needs more counselors than lawyers," she said. She went on to become a nationally certified counselor and licensed clinical alcohol and drug counselor and in the past year was tapped to lead WestCare's Community Triage Center, a 36-bed detoxification facility. She now oversees about 40 administrative employees including five counseling interns. As a leader, Kinard still likes to engage with clients by leading focus groups. She also recently volunteered for a Lady Gaga Born Brave Bus Tour event, an interactive experience for fans. The move allowed her to interact with youth and learn more about this particular group her facility serves. But her main drive is to make the center better everyday. When Kinard stepped into her role, the Community Triage Center had seen better days. The facility was in need of some organizational changes and was not in the best standing with community partners. As a result Erin Kinard Director of Community Triage Center/Clinical Director WestCare Nevada seling after detoxification. The added services could prevent patients from falling through system cracks, which can occur with referrals. "I would love to see the program get bigger and see a more holistic one-stop shop approach," she added. Kinard is also looking at a novel approach to helping adolescents. She is seeking grant funding to support the use of smart phones in treatment. Partnering with a local cell phone technology company and wireless service provider, the goal is to test a specific type of cell phone with adolescent clients undergoing mental health treatment. The phones would serve as a tool, offering patient appointment reminders, other daily messages and access to help if needed. The phones can also be used as a tracking device, although Kinard said that would not be encouraged. Once a patient meets certain treatment milestones, they are then rewarded with app downloads. The relationships on the technology and service development front are in place to conduct a study, but the initiative would need about $250,000 a year for a 30-patient pilot. "Adolescents are tough because it's tough to get them engaged. We could change that by using a device that speaks to them on their level and in their language. That only drives engagement," Kinard added. —B.S. 6ZLWFK WRGD\ DQG H[SHULHQFH WKH GLIIHUHQFH Rank Local deposits Bank 1 2 National branches Your Prescription for the Perfect Office Top executive Operating revenue Net income (loss) Licensed beds Inpatient days Occupancy rate Wells Fargo Bank 4 National deposits Bank of America 3 Local branches Citibank National Assn Beal Bank Nevada Rank Hospital 1 2 St. Rose Dominican HospitalsSiena Campus 3 University Medical Center Shadow Summerlin III THE CATALYST FOR CHANGE CLIENT FOCUSED CARE SERVICES FOR BOTH NON-INSURED AND UNDER-INSURED AVAILABLE SCHOLARSHIPS AND GRANTS PROVIDED TO QUALIFIED CLIENTS TIERED PRICING FOR SERVICES FREE INTRODUCTORY INFORMATIVE SESSION Bank of Nevada 7 Summerlin Hospital Medical Center 4 5 Goldring Centennial Hills Nevada State Bank 6 Top executive Sunrise Hospital & Medical Center U.S. Bank 5 MountainView Hospital 7 Spring Valley Hospital Medical Center 8 8 Valley Hospital Medical Center 6 Desert Springs Hospital Medical Center 9 M & I Bank 11 Our network means your employees save from day one.
