The first class will examine 19th century program music, including the "Symphonie Fantastique" of Berlioz, "The Moldau" by Smetena, and the "Romeo and Juliet" overture of Tschaikovsky This will be . followed April 11 by a class on French impressionism, with emphasis on music of Claude Debussy and English composer Frederick Delius; on April 18, the class will get to know the three Russian period ballet masterworks of Igor Stravinsky: "The Firebird," "Petrushka" and "The Rite of Spring." On April 25, the class will examine the music of a virtually unknown group of 18th century American composers, the Moravian composers of Pennsylvania and North Carolina, who wrote examples of the earliest art music in this country .
