We are all connected... Meet Nancy. As a resident at Cedars for 57 years, and a volunteer at local organizations through Cedars Community Connections program, Nancy contributes to the fabric of Cedars and her community. She feels proud to help the underserved, and enjoys delivering bread to the St. Vincent De Paul dining room. Every day after her volunteer shift, Nancy stops in downtown San Anselmo, visiting shops and happily chatting with people she knows — she feels they are happy to know her too. For over 40 years, Nancy has spent afternoons visiting with the firefighters at the Ross Valley Fire Department. Her strongest bond is with Fire Captain Todd Standfield, who has known Nancy for decades. " Nancy has been a person that has impacted the culture of our fire department. Her gentle approach to life has been comforting to us and has helped us through our more stressful days and challenging times." — Todd Standfield, Captain, Ross Valley Fire Department People with intellectual and developmental disabilities regularly experience barriers to engaging with their communities — often facing stigmas, including not being seen as contributors. Nancy is just one of the many people who defy the stigma by being interwoven in our community. Cedars has spent the last century advancing programs that work to directly engage participants with their local communities, and lead lives based on their personal preferences and interests.
