Rehearsals are held Mon.-Thurs. beginning Sept. 23 Until Presentation Though it has been around for years, a new generation has discovered "shag dancing", which is enjoying a resurgence in the Carolinas. Southern Living Magazine refers to it as "the swing dance of the South" and as a "quick, fun, social dance." All throughout the southeast region, there are many groups devoted to the instruction and preservation of this classic dance. You may be thinking, "It sounds like fun, but I know nothing about how to do it!" Many were in that same situ- ation, until they enrolled in a class and became instant con- verts! They are now part of the generation that aims to keep this popular dance alive. If you are looking to learn shag dancing, look no further than the Neal Center! The Neal Center, in association with Cleveland Community College, will offer a new class in shag danc- ing. The class will meet on Monday nights, from 6:45pm- 8:15pm, beginning September 23 through October 21. Glenn Carter, local shag dancing instructor, will lead the class. To register, please contact Kimberly Ashley, Continuing Education Coordinator at Cleveland Community College at 704/669-4237.
