The notion of a series revival — which that show actually has had already — gets turned on its head as the franchise re- turns to Fox with "BH90210," premiering Wednesday, Aug. 7. Original stars and close friends Jennie Garth and Tori Spell- ing helped devise the concept of what might happen if the cast attempted to bring back "90210," so they play fictional- ized versions of themselves ... as do Jason Priestley, Shannen Doherty, Ian Ziering, Gabri- elle Carteris and Brian Austin Green. Garth reprised her Kelly Tay- lor role in The CW's 2008-13 "90210" reboot, and she says making "BH90210" has been "a crazy journey and evolution, but we've managed to keep everybody going in the same direction, which is incredible to me. I wasn't intrigued about doing something that had already been done, but this is something that's a little fresh, marrying different things into the best of all possible worlds." Priestley, who's given a wife other than his real-life one in the show (a publicist played by Vanessa Lachey), admits he thought "BH90210" was "the craziest idea I'd ever heard" at first. "Then we all started sit- ting around and really talking seriously about it, and I think what we all came to is some- thing really original that people will find entertaining." The late Luke Perry might have appeared on "BH90210" had his "Riverdale" schedule enabled it. "It's not easy," Garth allows of making the new show without him. "His picture is up in the makeup trailer, and he's in my thoughts. I can't explain it, but he's with me and with the show on a level that is un- deniable." Adds Priestley, "Luke was a big part of my life and of our '90210' family, and his ab- sence leaves a big vacancy. And we all feel it, every day." For Garth, "BH90210" holds to her being admittedly choosy about what she does profession- ally and who she does it with: "I don't really like working, and I'm very selective about who I spend my time with when I have to be away from my family. Tori and I realized we wanted to work together again and produce together, so we set out on a mission, and this is our second foray into that world (after the short-lived sit- com 'Mystery Girls')." The appeal of seeing "a bunch of middle-aged actors who aren't the youngsters they were on their hit show in the '90s" is noted by Priestley, who also has directed the third "BH90210" episode. "And let's make it a (pseudo-)reality show, and let's make it funny. That's what we decided to do." Celebrity Scoop Celebrity Scoop Reunited 'BH90210' cast straddles fact and fiction in Fox's new take Cover Story Cover Story By George Dickie Julie Ann Emery knows she's had it good. After a string of meaty roles in A-list series such as "Better Call Saul," "Catch-22" and "Fargo," the 44-year-old Tennessee native admits it will be tough to follow up on her current role as God-fearing Sunday school teacher-turned-remorseless Grail agent Lara Featherstone in the AMC comic book drama "Preacher." "It's very hard for me to walk away and it's even harder for me for me to think about what comes next," the actress explains, "because I feel like everything is boring after you've played Featherstone. I mean, I learned new skills every season, like I learned how to strip a Glock. I learned something for Season 4 that I can't talk about yet that is com - pletely awesome and cool. Yeah, she's been a great character to live with for the last three seasons." The fourth and final season of the Seth Rogen/Sam Catlin/Evan Checking in with Julie Ann Emery Goldberg-created, written and pro- duced drama opens Sunday, Aug. 4, and finds God's endgame beginning to click into place as Jesse, Tulip and Cassidy (Dominic Cooper, Ruth Negga, Joseph Gilgun) make their way to the Most High to try to pre - vent the end of the world. That will undoubtedly mean more action scenes for Featherstone, a take-charge character that Emery says has "something very broken inside." "Season 4 pushed me and Feather - stone both to my physical and emo- tional limits and that's saying a lot," she explains. "And we're definitely going to see Featherstone with some of my favorite relationships, so we're going to see some Featherstone/Tulip action again, there are multiple fan - tastic storylines with Herr Starr (Pip Torrens). That relationship is going to get complicated this season. "It was a pleasure to shoot this sea- son," she continues. "If we're going to go out, I'm glad we're going out on our own terms and I definitely have a very satisfying final Feather - stone season."
