MARCH 9, 2013 • LAKE COUNTRY WEEKEND POST • 3 WWW.GMTODAY.COM Nature Hill students take new tack for upcoming performance Chris Flood/Enterprise Staff Eight grader Sean Harris, left, rehearses Monday for Nature Hill Intermediate's "Music Man Jr." with eighth grader Alex Carter. Harris is playing Marcellus in the play and Carter portrays Professor Harold Hill. OCONOMOWOC – Students, staff and community and parent volunteers at Nature Hill Intermediate are in all-out rehearsal mode as the debut of their production "Music Man Jr." by Meredith Willson draws near – and from the looks of recent rehearsals, students are preparing a novel production. For this year's show, the production staff have created a "theater in the round" concept where the audience will find themselves immersed in the 1912 River City Essentially, the whole . school cafeteria becomes the stage and the actors will be among spectators, which director Amy Jappinen said is a different type of theater concept for the students. "This is a big undertaking for our middle school students and they are doing a great job with it," Jappinen said. "It was also a huge undertaking for our crew of students and parent volunteers to create, as it was very time consuming, but completely worth it." "Music Man Jr." is the story of professor Harold Hill, who comes to River City, Iowa, to trick the town out of their money by promising them a boys band. Once he gets the money for the instruments and uniforms, he moves onto his next scam. But, Hill finds something he didn't expect in River City: love. "Music Man Jr." will be presented at 7 p.m. on March 14, 15, and 16. A 1 p.m. mati- nee on March 16 will also be held. Tickets are $8 and are available in the Nature Hill Intermediate school office during regular school hours. Call 560-4949 with questions or ticket information. This show marks the school's fifth all-school musical, while Jappinen is celebrating her 20th show with the school district. This show is also a tribute to honor Jacob Butschke, a 12-year-old seventh-grader at Nature Hill who died unexpectedly of an undiagnosed heart condition, and the love he had for music and theater at NHI. – Chris Flood, Enterprise Staff Submitted photo Local boy builds fence to become Eagle Scout OCONOMOWOC – Johnathan Paul became the 83 Eagle Scout in the history of Boy Scout Troop 12. Paul, 18, had his Court of Honor on Feb. 17 at Adam's Hall at the Nashotah House. The troop is sponsored by the Oconomowoc Rotary and his project was to build a split rail fence for the Ewald soccer field to protect the septic bed from traffic. OKAUCHEE – Thanks to a $750 donation from local bar Foolery's Liquid Therapy, the Okauchee Fire Department was able to purchase new equipment for their dive team. The department purchased three new "ready" bags, three "interview" bags, one "incident command" bag and 10 new sets of fin clips that attach the swimming fins to their feet for their seven member dive team, said Captain John Douglas. The bags help the teams during long diving trips, each bag including a variety of items ranging from radios to communicate with one another to sunscreen, sunglasses and granola bars. Foolery's raised the money by hosting a charity motorcycle ride last summer. Pictured above are participants of the ride.
