When the council took up Wilson's appointment Feb. 5, seven of the council's 15 aldermen voted in favor of naming her to the position. Two aldermen voted against the recommendation, made by Mayor Tom Barrett, and there were five abstentions. Alderman Joe Davis Sr. was not present at 99 $ the meeting. Immediately after the council voted down Barrett's recommendation, he repeated the process and again appointed Wilson to the commission – a maneuver that set in motion the review procedures a second time, first by the council's Public Safety Committee and then the council itself. At the most recent council meeting Feb. 27, when Wilson's appointment was taken up for a second time, 11 of the 15 council members voted in favor of Barrett's recommendation.
