Allen Dean Caldwell, Sr., "Sundrop", 72, of Forest City, went to be with the Lord peacefully on Sunday, February 24, 2013. By: Evangelist list W.C. "Dub" b" Dellinger r Age 94 Can The Lord Trust You? The biggest question is, can He trust you in this love feast or have you pull another (Judas Iscariot)? Turn to Psalms 41:9 and read. Ref. John 13:18. I recall when I was small, hearing "Jesus knows all things." Then I would search myself to see how he saw me. Sometimes I would have to pray. The greatest thing on earth for you to know is to know that you are right with your Saviour and God. Be sure that you are right when the Lord's Supper comes around. John 6:54 "Whoso eateth my flesh, and drinketh my blood, hath eternal life; and I will raise him up at the last day." That is where your merits must show. To repeat that Jesus did come forth from the grave. If you miss the Resurrection, you won't go to Heaven. (Think that over). Jesus set the pace by being humble, strict, yes and still humble. Foot washing comes to the writers mind. I asked a friend, do you have foot washings in your church? Quickly, he said no. I said, your feet do not have to be dirty. That is when love www.rutherfordweekly.com 828-248-1408 and humble has come together. I have persisted in the foot washing and did enjoy it. Let's see what Jesus said about it in John 13:14: "If I then, your Lord and Master, have washed your feet; ye also ought to wash one another's feet". Jesus set this example for us to follow. And do not use it as playing a game. If you do, he will condemn it. Some are just going through the motions of The Lord's Supper. Anything that Jesus taught or said was for our benefit and to be used that way. So many people don't believe about the Ark. It is in Turkey. One man went and climbed over it, and his report was like the King James Bible has written. I predict that someday you can go and see the ark for yourself. I read that they are building a highway up to it. (There are many things we call small that the Lord looks on as if we were a mighty warrior.) Who did you ask to come with you to church this Sunday or within the last month? Is your church growing in attendance? If not, why do you think it is not? A native of Rowan wan County, he was born on n September 11, 1940. He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert Alexander and Lilly Ethel Morris Caldwell; a brother, Bobby Jack Caldwell; one grandson, Robert Allen Shea. He was of the Baptist faith and a firm and faithful believer in our Lord Jesus Christ. A loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, he adored all "HIS" kids. He treated everybody the same, no matter what. He never met a stranger and called everys body darling. He opened b his heart and home to h anyone in need. a Funeral services were held at A.C. NELLIE BLANCHE POWELL N e l l i e B l a n c h e Powell, age 88, passed away peacefully on March 1, 2013 after a long battle with Alzheimer's. While it may have been a battle that slowly robbed Nellie of many of her memories, she won that battle by retaining her sharp wit, smile and an occasional fist thrust in the air that signaled to all her essence remained with us. Known by many as "Nellie B" or "Aunt Nellie", she was born on November 27, 1924 to George Powell and Mary Hamrick Powell and was a long time resident of Ellenboro, NC. Miss Powell retired in 1985 after 40 years with Cone Mills, her retirement clock and plaque Thursday, March 7-March 13, 2013 displaye p dly displayed proudl her displayed proudly on her wall since then. Nellie ha ellie hobby y If Nellie had a hobby, it was her large extended family. Nellie was one of ten children and while she never married, it was widely known that after the death of her mother she proudly reigned as the matriarch of the Powell family. It was at Nellie's house that everyone gathered on holidays and where out of town family stayed when visiting. This was in spite of the fact that Nellie was never a great cook. In fact, her refrigerator was usually almost empty and even though from a large family, she never quite figured out that one small bowl of carrot salad and a canned ham was not enough to feed 35 people. Still, we kept coming back because we knew we were welcome. Even so, she could scatter a houseful of nieces and nephews with a single word, making it clear their place was out in the yard, not inside getting "grit" on her clean floor. Over many years, Nellie kept the family connected through her phone calls, visits, letters and the occasional family reunion where she was the main instigator and the family historian. Nellie was proud of her home, yard and flowers. She had the house built, meticulously overseeing its construction, something that was unheard of for a single woman to do on her own in the early sixties. Her other familyrelated hobby was travel. Nellie never favored exotic locations, instead she traveled to visit family, whether it was popping in unannounced on a cousin, niece, or nephew or to visit a brother or sister for an extended stay. On many of those travels, she often tapped a niece or nephew to bring along, giving several their first taste of bus, train or air travel. Nellie was a longtime member of Bethel Baptist Church in Ellenboro, NC. She also quietly provided gift offerings to other churches, particularly those where other family members were buried or were members. Nellie had a famously gruff manner and didn't hesitate to speak her mind, but everyone knew that beneath that rock solid exterior was a warm, caring heart -- and a quick sense of humor. She didn't mind, in fact we all know, that she relished being the center of a joke or jab. She could dish it out, but she took it too, with delight. Aunt Nelli oversaw llie rsaw Aunt Nellie oversaw the lives of many a niece an ne ew keeping nephew eping and nephew, keeping up with where they were and what they were doing. She stepped in with a helping hand when she could and even "supervised" when she thought it necessary. She was a caregiver during her mother's illness and didn't hesitate to open her home if someone needed a place to stay. Nellie also had a network of friends that she visited and readily took many them to the grocery store, the doctor or on errands when needed. Nellie is survived by her sister, Alma Powell Waters and her husband John, of Jackson, Mississippi and sistersin-law Eloise Powell and Yoshie Powell. She follows her other brothers and sisters to heaven: Vera Powell Bridges, James (Bub) Powell, Frances Powell McMahon, Walter Powell, Claude Powell, Catherine Powell Bradley, Dorcas Powell Williams and Joe Powell. The nieces and nephews of Aunt Nellie include: Mike Waters, Lisa Waters, Dean McMahon, Troy McMahon, Wayne Powell, Gene Powell, Ronnie Powell, Greg Powell, Gary Powell, Nancy Powell Hopper, Mary Jo Powell Poole, Cindy Powell Byers, Roger Powell (deceased), Eddie Williams (deceased), Lynn Williams Hensley, Kelly Williams, Don Bridges, Charles Bridges (deceased), Jimmy Bridges (deceased), Earl Bridges (deceased), Susie Powell, Eugene Spratt (deceased), Rick Bradley, Scott Bradley and JoAnn Bradley Fite. Add to those, her many aunts, uncles, cousins, great-nieces, great-nephews and friends and you begin to understand how many lives Nellie touched. Enjoy that big family reunion in heaven Nellie, you earned it. Funeral services were held at Bethel Baptist Church with the Rev. Ad Hopper, Rev. Dr. Wayne Blackwood, and Rev. Michael Sepaugh officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery. Memorials may go to Bethel Baptist Church in Ellenboro, NC. The family wishes to thank the many people who served as caregivers in recent years, including the staff of Sterling House, Carillon and White Oak Manor and Wayne Powell, JoAnn Fite and many others of her family. McKinney-Landreth & Carroll Funeral & Cremation Service is serving the family.
