Lake Lure Lions Club held its annual golf tournament at Bald Mountain Golf Course at Rumbliing Bald Resort on Lake Lure on Friday, May 3rd with 80 players. A coffee and doughnut breakfast was enjoyed prior to the shotgun start of the tournament. A buffet with wings, pizza, slaw, baked beans, brownies, and cookies was held on the terrace at legends on the lake at the conclusion of the tournament. The NC Wildlife Resources Commission and the NC Trappers Association are offering a free half-day Basic Trapper Education Course on Saturday, May 18, from 9am to 1pm, at the Marion Fish Hatchery, located at 645 Fish Hatchery Road, in Marion. The course, which provides new and experienced trappers information on basic and updated trapping techniques, includes outdoor trapping and fur handling demonstrations. To increase the amount of time students have outside with the trapping demonstrations, students must complete the online North American Trapper Education Program (http:// conser vationlear ning.org) prior to coming to the class. Trapper Education Course On May 18 Article Provided By: NC Wildlife Resources Commission The NC Wildlife Resources Commission, along with Neuse Sport Shop and the U.S. Forest Service, will sponsor more than 30 kids' fi shing events across the state in May and early June. The events are being held in support of National Fishing and Boating Week. Kids can fi sh for free and register to win prizes at each event, including a statewide drawing for a unifi ed lifetime license. The license, donated by Neuse Sport Shop in Kinston, includes both fi shing and hunting privileges. The Commission will donate an additional 100 prizes, such as fi shing rod and reel combos, towels, playing cards and mini-tackle boxes. A fi nal drawing for the prizes will be conducted at the end of June with a list of winners published on ncwildlife. org in July. Local sponsors may also provide prizes and gifts at fi shing events to registered participants. The Commission will also stock fi sh at many sites before the events to give participants a better chance of catching fi sh.
