The annual Awards Day ceremony was held on Friday, May 3, in the Library Auditorium. This year's Academic Excellence Award went to Haley Laughter. The award was presented to Laughter by the chairman of Isothermal's Board of Trustees, Leonard Hollifi eld. Laughter's instructors praise her hard work and passion for her chosen fi eld as a few of the reasons for her selection. Meanwhile, Laughter graciously credits her Isothermal family. "It is with great honor that we have launched a Music Project that will enhance the endeavor to build the NC Gold Trail. The NC Gold Trail is a Heritage Destination Trail that spans across the state of North Carolina to eventually include more than 30 counties that have a gold history. The NC Gold Album Music Project developed by Debrick Media Group, will help fund educational and tourism programs to bring America's fi rst Gold Rush to light and kindle a passion to explore the history and heritage of the beautiful state of North Carolina," explained Bechtler Heritage Center and Tourism Asset Foundation Administrator, Deborah Millikan. Multi-platinum, Award winning songwriter and Warner Bros producer, Rick Scott is helping make this Gold Album a reality. His hit songs are a part of the American music tapestry. He is one of the original members of the Super Group, Alabama and writer of numerous hits including "Why Lady Why," He has won Awards for songs cut by Johnny Cash after working with Cash for years. Other artists he worked with include Earl Thomas Conley, Vern Gosdin and more. This Gold Album is an opportunity for everyone at any age to participate; to have a hand in raising funds for the NC Gold Trail, Bechtler Heritage Center and Gold Trail Headquarters in Rutherfordton. The fi rst single release from the NC Gold Album, "Come Catch Your Breath" was co- written by Rick Scott and Deborah Millikan. It can be downloaded, streamed and purchased from all major music retailers such as iTunes, Apple, Spotify, Deezer, YouTube, and Tidal. As soon as the full NC Gold Album Release is announced, pre-order it, you will also be supporting Rutherford County Tourism and NC artists by doing so. This is a wonderful opportunity for the NC Gold Trail, for Rutherford County and for the state of North Carolina. Since we launched the contest and NC Arts Council helped spread the word, we have gotten a great response from numerous talented artists who are deeply connected to North Carolina and want a shot at being on the album. The NC Gold Album is scheduled for World-Wide Release in October of 2019 and with a Gold Album release celebration in Rutherford County. The NC Gold Album Music Project Showcase will be held at the Offi cial North Carolina Gold Festival Saturday, June 1st in Old Fort. Rutherford County will be represented by the Bechtler Heritage Center and the NC Gold Trail will be highlighted via the NC Gold Album Showcase and headlined by former Alabama member Rick Scott. Other members of the NC Gold Trail will be exhibiting at the festival as a cross-promotion for the trail and the NC Gold Trail Headquarters in Rutherfordton. The members include: Reed Gold Mine, Historic Gold Hill, Visit Cabarrus, McDowell County and Discover Burke County. A new publication NC Gold Tales Magazine that covers legends, facts, and folklore will make its debut June 1st and will cover gold stories from the Bechtler Legacy to gold mines that span across more than 30 counties that make up the NC Gold Trail. The Bechtler Heritage Center is the home of Christopher Bechtler. Bechtler minted America's fi rst one-dollar gold coin, 17 years before the U.S. Mint. The Bechtlers minted more than $2.24 million dollars in gold coins, stimulating commerce in the Southeast leaving a permanent legacy to both Rutherford County and American history.
