Wondering what sorts of careers grow out of the grocery industry? Just ask Jazzmen Simms, Store Director of Nugget Markets, Tiburon, and Chaunté Chastang, Store Director of Nugget Markets, Novato. How did you get started at Nugget Markets? CC: Back in 2009, I was about to graduate with my BS in Business Administration and was thinking of a job in human resources, but I had friends who worked at Nugget Markets and RAVED about it. I visited the store and was so impressed I applied and have been working here ever since! JS: I started working at Nugget Markets in 2008 simply to help my parents pay for college. I was a senior in high school and it was my first job. I never expected it would turn into such an amazing career! What sorts of roles have you served over the years? JS: I started as a courtesy clerk and then became a checker. I had the opportunity to join the training team, then became a PIC (person in charge) and started to develop my skills as a leader. I was promoted to MIC (manager in charge) and then assistant store director which prepared me for my current role as store director. CC: I started as a utility clerk in Woodland, then became a top gun, did some POS (point of sales) and checking, was promoted to PIC, then MIC and then assistant store director in Roseville. I did some produce and was interim store director for six months before becoming the store director in Novato. How did you grow personally as you advanced your career? JS: In every role, I focused on being my best and taking every opportunity to learn and grow. I've had many mentors within the company who were servant leaders, who saw something in me and took the time to develop me for this role. CC: I've been so appreciative of all the support from each team that I've been on. I also enjoyed being part of Nugget Markets' leadership program, which helped me learn more about the company and grow outside my comfort zone. What sets Nugget Markets apart as a workplace? CC: Definitely the culture! Overall, it's the people who really make Nugget Markets such a great place! JS: Our culture is truly unique. We foster a family-oriented environment where people can be themselves and have fun. Working for Nugget Markets allows me to say, "I GET to go to work" vs. "I have to go to work." I love this company! J A Z Z M E N S I M M S C H AU N T É C H A S TA N G Paid Advertisement
