4 Your guide to Tehama County Welcome Recreation abounds Nestled in the northern Sacramento Valley, just two hours north of Sacramento lies Tehama County. From fishing and hunting to family- oriented community events, Tehama County is the recreation destination for the North State. Tehama County is a land of beautiful contrasts. Starting in the Sierras to the east, the landscape unfolds into rolling foothills, excellent range land and spectacular buttes before sweeping down onto the fertile floor of the Sacramento River Valley. The Sacramento River valley cuts a rich swath through the county and provides endless varieties of outdoor recreation. It is one of the largest salmon spawning rivers in the world. Continuing west, the valley gives way to foothills and the east side of the Coastal Range.
