The Daily Star, Oneonta, N.Y., Friday, April 5, 2019 20 By Sarah Passingham TV Media Lucky 15: When the open sea calls, Discovery answers — a highly anticipated new sea- son of "Deadliest Catch" pre- mieres Tuesday, April 9. Fifteen is a lucky number for "Deadli- est Catch." Not only does this premiere kick off the 15th sea- son of Discovery's flagship se- ries, but the show's newest ad- dition, Capt. Steve "Harley" Davidson, has spent 15 years at the helm of the massive, 148-foot long Southern Wind. He and his crew have been boasting that they're privy to the location of a quarter of a billion dollars' worth of crab that's just waiting to be taken advantage of, but they're not about to share their intel with just anyone. There is a rivalry simmering out on the Bering Sea between the captains of the two largest boats in the Alaskan fleet. Capt. Harley's Southern Wind is second in size to the Wizard, the vessel captained by Keith Colburn, a man with whom Harley has a tenuous relation- ship. With the stakes as high as they are, Capt. Harley's prickly personality is sure to ruffle some feathers among his fel- low captains. The danger level of these fishermen's job is no joke, and the show title is no exaggera- tion. The crews working on crabbing boats endure freezing temperatures, incredibly long days of back-breaking work and brutal storms. A challenge for all of the boats in the fleet this season is the battle against winter weather. The longer winter weather conditions shorten the fishing season, which affects how much mon- ey the crew can take home to their families and communi- ties. The boats at Dutch Harbor battle through relentless storms, dropping temperatures and a freezing sea this season, not to mention the injuries and damage the crews must en- dure. No one feels the pressure to get out on the water and start hauling in the cash more than Jake Anderson aboard the Saga. Anderson hopes to be- come part owner, and he's proven himself to be an irre- placeable employee. Steve "Harley" Davidson as seen in "Deadliest Catch" B/The Pine Shop 6x7.5 realtalk
