The ABC late-night talk show is in Las Vegas for a week, starting Monday, April 1. "Strait"-actor: Jimmy Smits is renewing his relationship with NBC. The actor, who has starred in several shows on the peacock network over the years, has signed on to headline the cast of a potential new legal drama that's currently working its way through the pilot process. Smits, who starred in "L.A. Law" and later in the final two seasons of "The West Wing" as presidential candidate Matt Santos, has been cast in "Bluff City Law," which is in the works at NBC. Should it get ordered to series, Smits will play legendary lawyer Elijah Strait, who works for a high-profile Memphis law firm tackling some of the most controversial civil rights cases in the country. Caitlin McGee ("Grey's Anato- my") has also been cast as Strait's daughter, Sydney, with whom he has a complicated relationship. To- gether, the pair navigate their per- sonal lives while taking on some of the toughest legal cases that have come before the courts, add- ing a good dose of family drama to the gripping legal proceedings. Smits has been a powerful pres- ence for decades on both the big screen and the small. His recent TV credits include lengthy arcs in "How to Get Away with Murder" and "24: Legacy," and he had a supporting role as Sen. Bail Orga- na — Princess Leia's adoptive fa- ther — in two films in the Star Wars prequel trilogy and in 2016's "Rogue One: A Star Wars Story."
