8— February 23 - March 1, 2019 The Greeneville Sun, Greeneville, TN For any and all aspects the 91st Oscars may have, the event also is being defined by what it won't have. For instance, Kevin Hart as host. And a "popular movie" Oscar that was postponed after a major outcry. And a running time that over - shoots the scheduled three hours ... though that remains to be seen. The film industry's top celebra- tion has lurched toward its ABC air date Sunday, Feb. 24, when it again will be broadcast from Hollywood's Dolby Theatre. Once more, the independent-film world and movies backed by streaming services play significant roles — but there's still room for such blockbusters as "Black Panther" and the latest "A Star Is Born." Content to be a spectator this time is filmmaker Jennifer Todd ("Jason Bourne," the "Austin Powers" mov - ies), who produced the past two Oscar shows with Michael De Luca. "Doing it for two years is a lot," Todd confirms, "but I love the show, and I'm sure the people in charge (producer Donna Gigliotti and co- producer and director Glenn Weiss) will do a great job." Two years ago, the Oscars fa - mously ended with the wrong movie announced as best picture ("La La Land," when "Moonlight" actually won), and Todd says she now thinks about that moment "not that often. "Obviously, it was weird when it happened, but then I also did the (Oscar show) after that. It's the beau - ty of a live show, and I'm happy it wasn't my fault! At least I did noth- ing terrible to destroy the Oscars." Following are the nominees in several other categories in the 91st Academy Awards. Existing stars and 'A Star Is Born' factor into 91st Oscars By Jay Bobbin Cover Story Cover Story By Jay Bobbin With "Chicago Med" now in its fourth season, the Windy City has become a home away from home for Torrey DeVitto. Filming her role as Dr. Natalie Manning on location for the NBC drama — which airs Wednesdays, as all of executive producer Dick Wolf 's "Chicago" shows do now — has giv- en the actress a deep appreciation of the region. She's also grateful to have done research, without realizing it at the time, by serving as a Hospice Ambassador and a children's-hospital volunteer before the series began. "I actually attribute that to helping me get this role," DeVitto confirms. "Natalie specializes in pediatrics, and she's such a compassionate doctor, I feel like I was able to bring some of my experience in hospice volunteer - ing, and it really helped me build her and click with her." Manning has had concerns beyond treating patients lately, given fiance and fellow doctor Will Halstead's (Nick Gehlfuss) shady dealings that he has tried to keep her separated from. "Can the girl catch a break?," DeVitto muses of Manning's per - sonal life, though she believes the character's dedication to her job "keeps her going. Holding people's lives in your hands, you're forced to be present ... and without that, I think everything else would have driven her crazy." Since the "Chicago"-series regulars cross over to one another's shows frequently, DeVitto — whose father, Liberty DeVitto, was a longtime drummer for Billy Joel — always has to be ready to go, even if it's for one of the other series. "With most shows, you're nor - mally locked in for six years if you're lucky," she reflects "but with ours, it's like we get three shows to play on and three sets of cast members to play with. It's cool, because each set totally has its own vibe. Each one is not like the others." Birthdate: June 8, 1984 Birthplace: Huntington, N.Y. Checking in With Torrey DeVitto Current residence: Los An- geles Marital status: Divorced Other television credits in- clude: "Chicago Fire," "Chi- cago P.D.," "Pretty Little Liars," "It Had to Be You," "Best Christmas Party Ever," "Major Crimes," "Stalker," "CSI: Crime Scene Investiga- tion," "Army Wives," "The Vampire Diaries," "Castle," "One Tree Hill," "CSI: Mi- ami," "Runaway," "Beautiful People," "Drake & Josh," "Jack & Bobby," "Scrubs," "Dawson's Creek" Movie credits include: "Amy Makes Three," "Stevie D," "Evidence," "Cheesecake Casserole," "The Rite," "Kill- er Movie," "Heber Holiday" On finding lighter moments on the "Chicago Med" set: "If one of us forgets a line, there may be a little giggle there, just to bring us back into reality. On the night of the (intended) wedding (of Manning and Halstead), though, we both really stayed in character the whole time. It was so emo- tional."
